Found this on a Nats board./ For what its worth (not much)

"My father's best friend from high school is a Luxury home Builder. His business partner plays cards every week with Teixeira's father. Tex's father indicated he really didn't want to play with the O's. He went further, stating Tex's choice would be to stay in LA. However the wife is pressing him to come east. Despite what you may have been lead to believe she is from Atlanta (some already knew this). My Dad's friend comes into play here because of his partner and the fact that he has a super luxury home on the Bay he wants to sell him if he moves to the area. Tex's dad indicated a desire for the wife to be able to spend some time during the season in the ATL. Who plays in the ATL 3 times per season? As petty as this sounds it is a factor as is the fact that apparently according to the father the Nats have and always have had the biggest offer. Also Tex seems to know or have been sold by the Nats brass that he would be the legacy starter in DC. Not grouped with Ripken, Brooks etc. In short if Tex goes anywhere else it won't be because the Nats got outbid. Take it for what its worth, but I trust my pops and the 2 individuals he knows and it would be one hell of a story for me to come up with."

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Edit: Not laughing at you Pfunky, laughing at the post of the Nats fan.

A friend of mine said ESPN had a banner going across the bottom of the TV screen saying the Angels were out of the Teixeira negotiations and that they were going after Manny. Scioscia said they made their best offer and it wasn't enough. This should not be a surprise with Teixeira telling friends he wanted to be on the East Coast. The Red Sox are not going to sign him IMO for the reasons I said on my post this morning. They are not going to pay Teixeira $21 million + long term when Pedroia is making under $7 mill, Ortiz is making $13 million and Youkilis is making $3 million. It's not going to happen. Tex will be an Oriole by Thursday or Friday.

Sadly, this is just as plausible as most of what we hear on here (excluding Belkast, BB, etc...). Yet, Im sure by the time Im done typing this the angry responses will be flying on why this report is bull.

Which is why this Tex stuff may not get done tomorrow either.

I'm pretty sure that it will be Smouse vs. Praver...

And it won't delay a Tex announcement IMO because it may take several days:

Orioles general counsel Russell Smouse confirmed yesterday that the grievance would start being heard Dec. 17 in Baltimore by arbitrator Shyam Das. The hearing could take several days, and there is no definitive timetable for Das to render a decision.

You found that report plausible? He is set to make $200 million and he is on the road half of the baseball season. His wife can go to Atlanta whenever she wants.

I hate to sound so negative, but we honestly have no idea how MacPhail and the rest of our front office is/has handled the Teixeira negotiations.

MacPhail should be commended for keeping the Warehouse relatively leak-free, but other than that we really don't know how the front office has handled these negotiations.

I think we O's fans are suffering from information overload and in some cases the line between fact, hope, and rumor have become very squiggly and gray.

Unfortunately we won't know how MacPhail handled this until the ink is dry, whether it's on Orioles letterhead or otherwise.

I see your point but in my opinion this has been handled much more even handed than past FA negotiations. I don't think it's likely that a team will swoop in under MacPhail's nose and sign Tex out from under the O's unless it's a "crazy money" offer. And keeping leaks to a minimum is a good thing. Negotiating in the press plays right into Boras' wheelhouse.

I'm not saying it's a done deal but I do feel quietly optimistic.

    • There really haven’t been too many close pennant races involving the Yankees and the Orioles.   These are the closest finishes: 2012: Yankees 95, Orioles 93 (O’s eliminated in game 162; last held the lead in game 159) 1997: Orioles 98, Yankees 96 (Yankees eliminated in game 161; O’s led wire to wire) 1974: Orioles 91, Yankees 89 (Yankees eliminated in game 161; last held the lead in game 154) 1964: Yankees 99, Orioles 97 (O’s eliminated in game 160; last held the lead in game 151) 1980: Yankees 103, Orioles 100 (O’s eliminated in game 160; last held the lead in game 9) 1977: Yankees 100, Orioles 97 (O’s eliminated in game 159; last held the lead in game 105)  1996: Yankees 92, Orioles 88 (O’s eliminated in game 159; last held the lead in game 49). This year’s race is the next-closest, and there’s really nothing else that was even remotely close.
    • They said 1st triple play to end a game since 2009.  So yeah, it's probably never happened to end a game to clinch a playoff spot.
    • And yes, Ohtani-Betts-Freeman were coming next so they were in big trouble before the triple play.
    • I hope youre wrong too, but I think you are right.
    • 4-2 Padres bottom of the 9th, Dodgers have bases runners at 1st and 2nd none out. Robert Suarez is on the verge of blowing yet another save having already given up 3 straight hits. The ball is hit sharply to Manny who gets the ball and runs back to 3rd, then swings the ball around the horn for a Triple play.  And that play clinches a playoff berth for the Padres.  Wonder if that has ever happened, a triple play that clinches a playoff berth, probably not.  Hell of an ending!
    • That was nuts, what a play. I love both Ohtani and Mookie but it would be kind of fun to see the Dodgers lose the division en route to another early exit.
    • Manny starts a triple play to leave Ohtani in the ondeck circle and save Big Al's little brother from another meltdown!!
