Teixeira watch part IX....The final stages?

AM doesn't want to negotiate through the media. All that would do is give any other team public knowledge of what our offer is and they can beat it (not that SB isn't shopping it around already). But it's just not smart to negotiate through the media.

I dont see this as negotiating thru the media. Besides, the other 2 teams already have larger offers. Why not at least match what the other teams have on the table right now? I mean, realy, where is the harm in that?

You know what would be funny?

If the O's are completely out of the sweepstakes and have been for quite some time, and we're still talking about it like his signing with Baltimore is an inevitably while Boras and MacPhail haven't even spoken in a week.

That, my friends, would be sad, sad comedy.

If we were out if it AM would say something. If he didn't the fans would run him and PA out of town.

Yankees haven't overtaken BoSox, Rays from FOXSports' Dayn Perry

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8971224/Yankees-haven't-overtaken-BoSox,-Rays?MSNHPHMA

"It hasn't been enough.

The New York Yankees — flush, as always, with resources and resolve — have been this winter's most active team. But it hasn't been enough. They've coughed up almost $250 million in an effort to revamp the rotation, and they still might bring back Andy Pettitte. Even then, though, the Yankees will remain a third-place team in baseball's toughest division. To be sure, the additions of CC Sabathia and (if healthy) A.J. Burnett make the Yankees a better club, but they still haven't caught up to the Rays and Red Sox. More must be done, at least if the Yankees are serious about making the post-season."

guys, the longer this thing goes, now that the Sox and Angels are out of it, the more I'm convinced he doesn't want to play here.

What's the hold up? If we have the best offer on the table and are willing to go higher, if necessary, than why haven't we heard anything, by now.

If he truly wanted to be an Oriole, like he said he did, why isn't he one?

I don't think he's coming here guys. I hope I'm wrong, but with these other teams out of the running, what's the hold up?

If he hasn't contacting McPhail bt now, I feel it's because Boras is trying to get the Redsox to reconsider or the Yankees to get in the bidding.

Either way, it doesn't sound like he is in any hurry to take our offer, to be an Oriole.

The thing is though, we have no idea what our offer is right now. Those numbers were initial numbers, who knows (other than AM, PA, SB, and Tex) what our current offer is.

No joke. Tex is ready to follow Boras' lead, and if Boras thinks he can get more money by dragging negotiations out further, he'll do it...

I think if this thing was about to end, the media would be hearing some ruminations to that effect.

Right now the silence is deafening.

Strong chance this is the reality, IMO. Olney again said today that the O's have not upgraded their offer from an original offer that seems well below competitive:

The Orioles made a seven-year, $140 million offer -- not $150 million, as widely reported, but $140 million -- and have not upgraded that offer. Unless Teixeira puts himself on a platter for the O's and gives them a major hometown discount, it's unlikely he will sign with them.

That's like eight different columnists who have repeatedly said that the O's have not upped their offer. McPhail said as much before to Roch (saying he hadnt talked to Boras but let him know their offere was "flexible"), but people on here seem to think there have been secret negotiations.

Well, some people are pretty sure that Mark Teixeira will ride into town on a white horse and cure all the lepers or something.

I just hope we aren't being taken for a ride here.

    • And it happens every year. You would almost think people would stop with the choke comments.
    • I  agree with that  I still wouldn't mind another WR especially if they lose one of the main 3 due to injury. Bateman still scares me but it would be very nice if he's finally living up to his first round billing. What safety or pass rusher are you interest in ? I'm seeing people mentioning Baker from Arizona he would cost a lot.
    • You’re not really allowed to say that. How guys happen to perform for a couple weeks in October is a matter of their character and personal makeup. It’s not random. How the team fares in those couple weeks is the only meaningful measure of its quality and the competence of those who built it. It’s not random. After all, aren’t the storylines all the same things we’d talked about all season? No way CLE and PHI could rely on those shaky bullpens. And HOU and MIL were stuck counting on guys like Hader and Williams to shut down games, recipe for disaster. The LAD pitching would obviously outduel SDP when it counted, and the Tigers made the grave error of relying on someone like Skubal in a winner-take-all against Matthew Boyd. The Yankees are winning thanks to the production of the guys at the bottom of their lineup and by far the best closer in the playoffs. As we all predicted, Bobby Witt, Manny Machado, Luis Arraez, Austin Wells, Josh Naylor are all among the very worst qualified hitters in the playoffs. And expectedly, the best hitters have been guys like Brayan Rocchio, Giancarlo Stanton, Mark Vientos, Jesse Winker, and Kyle Higashioka. And of course, it was basically a dead heat between Dylan Cease and Max Fried for worst SP in the playoffs — and an absolute runaway for Emmanuel Clase as the biggest one-man disaster in the entire playoffs. What’s random?
    • Problem is Cleveland's pitching has been suspect too. If Cleveland can get some better pitching they can push this series to 7 games because Yankees bullpen is getting hit hard. I see Cleveland winning the next game and then the Yankees close this series out in game six back back at the Bronx.
    • Apparently Naylor got under what would have been a 3-run HR. Cleveland should be done, but stranger things have happened. And this NYY pitching is looking mightily suspect.
    • I agree the first round of playoffs there was very little offense in the Wild card and ALDS  but these two series has been ton of runs because the starters are nit giving you even 5 innings.
