I really wish they would include options on this. Some reason options and contract stuff is top secret for some reason. I think we will add 4-6 guys to the 26 man roster next season by the end of spring Training.
If you remove the Trumbo and Davis contracts in their entirety you aren't winning in 2019. The rebuild still needs to happen.
If you don't sign Davis and Trumbo and instead extend Manny you aren't winning in 2019 and the rebuild still needs to happen.
With the 2019 budget as low as it was the Davis and Trumbo deals didn't stop the O's from fielding a more competitive team. The rebuild strategy enacted by Elias and approved by ownership stopped the O's from fielding a more competitive team.
You know what's demoralizing to me as a fan? Losing 110 games three years after they supposedly hit bottom. Not even bothering to put up a facade of attempting to be competitive.
Well, you are wrong that they need to do it. It’s actually a fact that you are wrong.
200 million is stupid money for anyone.
That said, I would give him a dumb amount of money and I would also do it for Snell…but I think they could win a WS next year without doing that.
And if Torres, Rizzo, and Volpe are all going to continue hitting so much better than they have all year, it is going to make it very hard for the Dodgers or Mets to do anything to stop them.
Whether they were still profitable is irrelevant. It is hard to win when you are starting out with $23M committed to Chris Davis and competing against teams with more revenue. I also think it helped demoralize the fanbase to have such an embarrassing contract. Not sure why self inflicted damage doesn't count. Perhaps I am not understanding what you mean.
