Full details are out.  8/120 is the base.  Sounds right.

I think if you base this off Franco's or Rodriguez extension then this is right.  If you base it off Posey's extension and adjust for arb pre-arb years/inflation you get closer to 8/160.  You could make arguments for either methodology.

I wouldn’t want to sign Adley for more than 8 years.

8/120 or so seems right.

For reference:

Buster Posey

Year 1: $8 million

Years 2-5: $2 million total

Year 5: $8 million

Then an 8 year $160 million contract. ($20 per year)

So working off that an 8 year deal for Adley would get his year 2-6 (team control years and his first three free agent years.

Using Posey made roughly $80 million in his first 8 years.  Now there had been inflation in two places: arbitration salaries and yearly contract amount.  Adley, who could make the case right now for being the best hitting catcher in baseball could expect $12, $15, $18 million if not higher.

So I would say that his expected money until free agency is about $47 million.

Then I would expect his annual salary to be higher than Posey's (call it $25 per)

That's $47 plus $75 = $122 million.

I think you hit it on the head.  Obviously there are some assumptions in there.

What about Boras?

Someone posted a quote from Boras recently who seemed to be against longterm contracts that bought out free agency years.   It seemed that very, very few of his clients actually signed this type of contract.

What does that have to do with Adley?

I thought Boras was Adley's agent and Henderson's agent.   Incorrect?   My bad.

Haha.   You knew what I meant.  Why didn't you just say that Boras wasn't Adley's agent in the first post.   LOL

Last I head Adley was with BHSC.

He might have switched but I think it would have been big news.

He is Henderson's and Holiday's.

Edit- Because I got a good 10 minutes of amusement by screwing with you.  😀

I don't think this is quite right.  Posey started his 8/159 deal before his first arb year.  If you hack off the last 2 years of his contract and substitute pre-arb numbers in place (we can assume 1 million) you get 8/121. Then from here you can add inflation (about 30%) and you get around 8/160.
