Debating this with some friends, so I will pose it here for folks who are more in the know than I:

1. Does this make it more likely that a sale of the franchise is coming?

2. Should they sign a long term lease and then sell, is that lease binding with the new ownership?

The Raven's literally gave a "verbal handjob" to Hogan earlier in the year. As someone else mentioned it's a bi-partisan part of the political game.

“We thank the Board of Public Works and Governor Hogan for supporting this agreement. We are excited that M&T Bank stadium will be home to the Ravens for at least the next 15 seasons,” said Sashi Brown, President, Baltimore Ravens. “

Honestly, that statement is not nearly as obsequious as the Angelos quote about Moore, which mentions him four times.  Whatever.  Just get the deal done.

Louis and the lawsuit are the wildcard here.  I don’t think it passes the smell test.  It seems a little too contrived for me.  I think it’s a distraction and maybe something for JA to use in the negotiations.  I can’t think of a single motivation to make salacious  arguments against your mother and brother while your father is still alive and your greatest asset is at an extremely pivotal point in terms of it near and long term valuation prospects.

The first part of your post made sense, but this part is real tin foil hat stuff.   Lou has been squeezed out of the Orioles side of the family business and he doesn’t like it.  Simple as that.

Yes the lease is binding.  Look at Tampa as an example.

Speaking of Lou:

Outside attorney is named to take control of Peter Angelos’ law firm, assess whether it should be sold or  dissolved.

Attorney William J. Murphy has been appointed conservator of Peter Angelos’ law firm, taking control of the practice built by the now-incapacitated legal titan and Orioles owner amid a bruising family fight over his assets.

Murphy, a partner with Zuckerman Spaeder in Baltimore, declined to comment on his appointment by a court order issued Tuesday.

This is kind of personal to me.We have been working on this entertainment district since before 2014. Now it looks like Little John and Less is Moore the new governor want to get credit for the revitalization. F both of them. Sorry about my rant .

I agree ….but lots more needs to be done including cleaning up the area, get rid of the eye sores, and making it safer.

People win at Horseshoe and then get robbed in the parking lot. My buddy won and had to get a security escort because he didn’t feel safe.

Tent housing under the end of 295 and in the grassy area between the lanes of MLK and 395.

A lot still had to happen for out of town folks to feel safe in the area.

I hate the Angelos family and still believe they are one of the worst ownership groups in professional sports. I prey everyday that I wake up to an announcement of the sale to a new local ownership group.

Agreed that there are still many problems and hurdles. Was in San Francisco and ufortunately homeless crisis is even worse. Also saw near my hotel that people put signs on their cars saying nothing to steal ,already broken into.

Checkerspot ,one of the Oriole caravan stops is moving to a bigger locations in late spring. One of the owners:

1421 Ridgely St. and Horseshoe Casino Baltimore are separated by a ramp for Russell St. The land underneath is owned by Baltimore City and is currently a homeless encampment that caught fire in February. Judy Neff said they are interested in getting a lease for the property and cleaning it up so it’s a safer pedestrian pass-through and could potentially be used for parking.

I don’t know Murphy personally, but I know of him and I know his law firm, Zuckerman Spaeder, extremely well.   They are a top notch firm for representing other law firms, especially with respect to ethical issues and professional malpractice claims.   I can’t think of a better firm to sort out the Angelos firm’s issues.

Was there anything unusually political in the statement? I share the pessimism about John that’s expressed in this thread, but like HakunaSakata pointed out about the Ravens, the comments related to the governor and revitalization seem like boilerplate stuff that’d be similar in most statements from most teams.

Of course not. Over the years the Orioles have gone out of there way to partner with Hogan and his wife on numerous things and advertised that fact plenty. The projection going on with the reaction to this statement is hilarious. It's PR nonsense that every team would release. If you want something to get angry about you can start with the fact that JA most likely held out on the lease signing to get an even better deal out of the state while the Ravens were more than happy to receive the 600 mil they were given.

If I was a conspiracy theory type I would wonder if John Angelos/Orioles own any of the property of the area that is being fixed up. Not saying they do.

At the end of the day the 5 year lease made no sense. The long term lease will get done and a mutual admiration societyesque statement and perhaps press conference will be held.

I don't want to delve into politics other than to say there was nary a mention of Hogan is such glowing terms over the last 8 years by John Angelos. Suddenly, new Governor and he wants to heap praise when I bet Moore hasn't done as much as move into his office by now.

It's just so obviously political. Peter was pretty good besides a comment here and there of donating to who he wanted to but keeping the Orioles organization apolitical.

That's the way I like my sports, the Orioles, and the Hangout. I don't believe John Angelos aggrees with that and it's one more reason why this team will be better when he's no longer involved with this organization.

Redefine the paradigm?

That reads like what folks write to mock announcements like that.

Is it just me or does JA bear a striking resemblance to Little Carmine of "The Sopranos"?  In his speaking and writing he comes across as the guy that lives in his father's shadow, has never accomplished anything of note and tries to compensate for his perceived judgement by speaking with words he doesn't quite understand but if they have 4 syllables and can add a coma I seem smart right??

That explains why the homeless encampment is no longer there. There is fence around it now.

This is the area right off of the Russell Street exit off 95 correct?

    • Good point, no other metropolitan area has more than one team.
    • Could it be that they allowed the Gnats to reside within 30 minutes of their home. Effectively cutting their market in half?
    • Got my all-time low rarity score on today's game - 6.
    • 41 freaking years and here's this guy with the name pickles telling me I should be happy with 91 wins and getting owned in the playoffs again. 😂 😂 I saw a team that looked terrible the second half and probably didn't even deserve that spot the way they were playing .
    • Lol. Here's the funny they know more then you know. Typical Oriole fan who's happy with getting punched in the mouth.
    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
