Good to see the aggressive placements for Griff and Ethan Anderson. I assume Honeycutt will be top 10-ish once we see him play? So far so good with Griff and EA at Delmarva.

Honeycutt will be #4 or higher depending on if Holliday or Povich graduate from the list.

Is Yaiber Cartaya a dude to watch @Tony-OH @RZNJ?  79K in 56 IP across FCL and Delmarva. 6’5” 165. 21 and racked up most of his stats in the FCL.

Any projection there with that frame, or did he simply just put up good numbers as an older player for the FCL?

Thoughts?  Question for anyone. I noticed him while checking box scores on the recent draftees.

Looks at least interesting.   Of course, he’s not 165 lbs now.   He looks like he could get stronger but he’s definitely not a beanpole.   From the announcers he sounds like he’s 94-95 and the one time I saw him, his slider looked good.    I imagine he starts off in the Delmarva rotation next spring but he could advance quickly if he performs.

RZNJ did a pretty good job of explaining him. Here's my notes from the one outing I watched him. He had a nice outing last night but no video. Definitely a guy to watch due to the frame and current velocity.

FB- 94 (95)

SW- Ok, but not a ton of swing and miss
CH- Will throw right on right and get swing and miss

Loses command in bunches

Morfe could put himself in the mix. Plus, it’s refreshing to have our first legit pitching prospect since Grayson/Hall. Also, Morfe could be right behind Mayo, Basallo, and recent “first rounders” EBJ, Honeycutt, and O’Ferrell. Not bad for a dude that just hit stateside this year.

Hope Morfe continues this.

Morfe has great velocity and very well may end up here, but for now, he needs work on his secondaries before getting too high.

These "power rankings" are a fun way to track prospects throughout the year. They are not "official" prospect rankings that are completed at the end of the year after a full evaluations. To be eligible for the list, a player must play at least one game on an active roster. (Updated as of Aug 20th)

These are the last rankings with Holliday and Povich included as they should both graduated this next week.

Thanks. Both graduated during last night’s game. Now we get a little glimpse of what the system looks like after the dust settled from the trade deadline, and the draftees debuting.

Two top 10 in MLB prospects up top in Basallo and Mayo. Our recent high rd NCAA draftees. Then we’re finally seeing our DSL players put themselves on the map.

Wow, I'm surprised how high you have O'Ferrall, Tony. Are you a fan of his or is this more a not rating the guys below him that highly thing?

A little bit of both.

O'Ferrall is a legitimate defensive SS prospect who controlled the strike zone even if he did not impact that baseball much. That could be his downfall, but I'm going to give him a bit of a mulligan until next season.

On top of it all, who should be above him? Not a ton behind him to get super psyched over. It's either guys low in the system with promise, under performing hitters, defensive liabilities, or pitchers that have some promise, but don't scream out I'm going to be a successful starter.

    • Interesting but It doesn't make me feel any better. It's like saying hospitalization was because of a fluke accident rather than a serious illness. Still need intensive care.
    • Honestly, data shmata.... The good old fashion eye test --- their lack of timely hitting and what looks to me to be a team that's pressing and expecting to lose is all you need to know.
    • Of course. You don’t need data to know this although the data just supports the obvious. This has been an issue a lot this year, whether it be for individual players or the team. When you are struggling this bad, bad luck is always involved.  Just as when you are tearing things up, good luck is always involved.
    • Needless to say, our offense hasn’t scored a lot of runs lately.   But how much is bad hitting, and how much is bad luck?  A friend of mine sent me this: “I compiled the high xBA at bats that turned into outs and low xBA at bats that turned into hits for the Orioles and their competition for the 3 Boston games and 3 Detroit games. “The results: High xBA outs (defined as xBA above .300) Orioles / Opponent 9/15: 6 / 2 9/14: 9 / 3 9/13: 2 / 6 9/11: 7 / 3 9/10: 2 / 2 9/9: 4 / 2 Total: 30 / 18 Low xBA hits (defined as xBA below .250) Orioles / Opponent 9/15: 0 / 0 9/14: 0 / 0 9/13: 0 / 1 9/11: 3 / 1 9/10: 1 / 2 9/9: 0 / 6 Total: 4 / 10” To add to the above, in those six games, Orioles’ batters struck out 50 times, while their opponents struck out 61 times.   So, the Orioles made a lot more contact than their opponents, but a lot of their well-hit balls turned into outs, while their opponents were rather fortunate with poorly hit balls turning into hits.    Obviously, this data isn’t the whole story, and it’s only covering the last road trip, not the last 5 weeks or so that the offense has been struggling.   But it does suggest that bad luck has played a role in our hitting woes over the last week.
    • Hyde was saying before the deadline, right after the Marlins series, that the hitting had been struggling, and asked the press if they thought the answer was to get younger?  At the time Holliday and Mayo weren’t up. I believe Norby was the temp injury fill in for Mateo.  Being forced to play Holliday/Mayo in ride or die situations this year has really killed us.  A couple of things… 1.  It’s tough to break in a lot of rookies/2nd year players all at once.  2. Hindsight 20/20, the rash of pitching injuries forced Elias to buy a 2nd SP and we should’ve kept Norby as insurance. Hindsight 20/20, Holliday was the #1 overall prospect and in AAA. Mayo was having the best AAA season offensively anyone could’ve dreamed of.  Overall, offensively we’re just a year or two away.  Long story short… our young hitters need experience that only time will bring.
    • Kjerstad hasn't played in 60 days and is still the teams best hitter since July 12th.till the teams best hitter since July 12th.
    • Does anyone really want to see a Royals - Orioles rematch in the Playoffs...  Boy, I still have PTSD from a decade ago. smh
