Rubenstein just bought the O's from. Angelos family.  John Angelos was acting owner and was trying to enrich himself with income of O's.  It's too quick to judge Rubenstein when he didn't control O's in offseason.

Oh he wasn't trying.  He was doing a heck of a job of it.

John Angelos was so cheap and so proud of it that he bragged DURING the pandemic the Orioles we not losing money like the other richer teams because he had a tiny payroll.  He said this outloud.  You never say this stuff out loud.  But John did.

Then did dumb stuff like suspend Kevin Brown over a MASN win loss history with the Rays.  Because he thought it made him look cheap.  NO JOHN YOU LOOK CHEAP BECAUSE YOU ARE CHEAP!

Yep and he was penalized by making out like a bandit.

We have one of  the league’s lowest payrolls and we’re still rolling with cheap moves?

no wonder the Yankees are a better team

can you imagine Soto in the middle of this line up?

Pretty funny how people love bragging about our ability to pick up scrap heap relievers and turn them into gems while simultaneously mocking moves like this. Wonder how many people laughed when we picked up Coulombe? It won't work every time, but there's literally no downside to trying. But hey, any excuse to complain right?

How do you figure that?

The O's traded someone to get him and he doesn't have options.  Both of those are downsides to trying.

Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't but there are downsides to trying.

How is this a cheap move?  Was getting Cano and Bautista a cheap move?  So you want them to trade players like Holliday, Kjersted, etc for a one year rental like Soto?  That would have not been a cheap move just a stupid one.

And not work.

I'd rather not have them working on projects during the season when the window is open.

I mean I don’t mind giving the guy a few innings in the last bullpen spot. There’s 162 games. We’re two months pre deadline. Sure it hasn’t worked in instances, but last year’s back end of bullpen were two randos like this.

I dunno. Soto seems perfect for NYY. Doesn't seem to fit the vibe here with his ego.
