Just Regular Posted Saturday at 15:23 Author Share Posted Saturday at 15:23 I hadn't digested before today that Andrew Walters, college relief prospect Elias wasn't able to sign from the '22 draft, became a '23 Cleveland selection and is in their postseason bullpen in '24. It looks like the regular season results were pretty extreme effectively wild - 6/5 K/BB in 8.2 innings, but just 1 hit. Walters taking the extra year at Miami got himself up to nearly a $1M bonus.

And he just gave up the only run so far in game 5. Guardians played the bullpen game a little too cutely today, taking Boyd out after a pretty good just two innings has led to some lesser used arms coming out of the pen. Just Regular Posted Saturday at 19:26 Author Share Posted Saturday at 19:26 Gaddis has been pushed past his Grady Little-Pedro Martinez breaking point, and Vogt is forced to dig deeper into the depth chart. Eight long outs to go, and Tigers have it back to 5-3.
Fiver6565 Posted Saturday at 20:08 Share Posted Saturday at 20:08 Certainly seeing the medium term drawbacks of this ‘chaos’ pitching strategy. At some point these guys run out of steam.
Uli2001 Posted Saturday at 21:18 Share Posted Saturday at 21:18 The two upstarts Detroit and KC out. No 2023 Texas Rangers this year. Last year was really an anomaly and the Orioles were on the receiving end. On the other hand, I think Detroit would be tougher on the NYY. Cleveland just can't hit. They lucked into a GS today against Skubal or they would have lost.

They won 89 games, one fewer than the "upstart" Rangers last year. So why don't they count as a possible upstart? Payroll? Last year's Rangers had a pretty big payroll. And the Mets were 75-87 in 2023. Edited Saturday at 21:31 by SteveA

Both AL poseur teams out so at least the AL rep will be a legit good team. But now I'm officially in anybody but the vYankees mode.
Chavez Ravine
I certainly didn’t have Jack Flaherty in my sphere of potential pitchers to lead off an NLCS. Edited 2 hours ago by Chavez Ravine

Either go full NBA and have the regular season be an amuse bouche to the playoffs, or do something radically different like have thresholds throughout the year that teams need to meet in order to advance to the next stage of consideration—year round playoffs! Moose Milligan
Watching Flaherty's success this year has been nauseating. I mean, good for him...but what the hell happened to our magic pixie dust that we couldn't get anything nearly this good out of him?
