Baltimore Orioles (8-3, 1st +1.5) @ Texas Rangers (7-6, 1st +1.5)

Streak / L10

BAL: -1, Lost 3 of 4

TEX: +1, Won 3 of 5

Game 4 (3:05)

(QS=0)Mike Wright (1-0) 7.20 (1.20/.263), 4/1, (1HR)

vs.

(QS=1)Derek Holland (1-0) 2.31 (1.03/.182), 9/4 (1HR)

Mike Wright: Wright wasn't all that great in his 2016 debut against Boston mostly due to poor control over his pitches particularly his slider and change up. He gave up four runs on five hits in five innings, but got the win behind a nine run offensive effort. He threw 96 pitches and miraculously was only credited with one wild pitch despite burying at least half a dozen pitches in front of or on top of the plate. Hopefully, he'll be a little bit better in his second start here against Texas especially with Holland on the mound.

Derek Holland: Holland's 2015 season was cut short after only 37 innings with a season ending shoulder injury, but so far so good in 2016 as he has a quality start of six shutout innings in his debut against Seattle and he allowed three runs in five innings against the Angels in his last start. He threw 110 and 92 pitches in those games, so he is ready to go.

In well over 400 innings in his home park, Holland's numbers aren't all that great much like Lewis. He has, however, pitched very good against the Orioles in seven starts. The good news for the Orioles is that Mark Trumbo owns Holland in 45 ABs with five home runs and 12 RBIs. The bad news is Holland owns everyone else in our lineup to this point, but no one else has nearly the sample size that Trumbo has. Pitch wise, Holland is dominant from the beginning until he starts to tire around 75 pitches and beyond. That's when he's been the most hittable so far this season.

Well, Colby Lewis did give up the home runs, but he was pretty far from terrible. He kept the Rangers within striking distance. Gallardo did much better than I expected. For the slow stuff he throws, he is more effective than I expected him to be. The only question I have is will this continue more or less through the season? This is a tough loss snatched from the jaws of victory and, IMO, this one falls squarely on Buck Showalter. Just a terrible decision to roll the dice in the seventh inning like that and allow him to face not just one, but two batters even after walking the first one and letting him face DeShields who had hit the ball real hard three times in the prior at bat. Two were just foul with one being a foul home run and the other hit to the wall in left. Just a boneheaded managing decision IMO and it cost us this game and instead of Gallardo leaving the game on a high note with a QS under his belt, we're instead looking at a loss and a six inning four run performance for Gallardo instead who takes the ND.

Mike Wright and Derek Holland. Holland has been pretty damn good against the Orioles in seven starts while Mike Wright will make his first career start both against Texas and in this park. As others have already mentioned, it would be a miracle to get this game in. The rain in Texas starts around 7AM and doesn't start letting up until Monday morning. For the gametime window, there's a 70% chance of rain at the ballpark from 1pm-5pm where it drops down to 50%-60%. The Orioles may not even have a chance to split this series. If we don't get this one in, we get two days off before heading back home to face the Jays for three on Tuesday.

Baltimore (8-3)

Boston (6-4) -1.5

Toronto (5-7) -3.5

NY Yankees (4-6) -3.5

Tampa Bay (4-7) -4.0

I agree with you about the odd decision to bring Gallardo back out. I was listening to the Texas audio and the announcers pointed out that he hasn't got an out in the 7th inning of any game since last May, I think it was.

Looks like it was June 27. He went 8.1 scoreless innings in Toronto, of all places. He hasn't topped 6 innings in any outing since.
