Naming a child after an Oriole

My initial thought is that there are more important things to name a kid after, but that's dumb. If it is sentimental to you, then go for it. You should name your kid whatever makes you happy.

I was named (my middle name) after the person that introduced my parents because he died in his 20's.

Personally...I hope I can give my children names as meaningful as the one given to me, and I don't think naming them after my favorite sports players will give them that.

Who knows, though...that's just me.

I wanted to name my son Cal, but my fiance was not on board with that. My friend had already named his son Camden. Fortunately, my last name ends in an L and we went ahead and named him Cole. His initials are CAL.

When we had a baby about 16 months ago, we were going to go with Camden for a boy. We had a girl, and named her Callie

I tried. I have a fifteen month old son. I was pushing for Calvin. My wife is a diehard Cleveland sports fan, so I was trying to negotiate with Calvin LeBron. She didn't go for it and for her sake it is good that we didn't use LeBron as a middle name!

That's a shame. Imagine all the catchphrases he would miss out. For example, after kindergarten, he could "take his talents to first grade".

I know a girl who named her daughter after her pet bird. Her name is Crow. I later asked "why didn't you call her Raven?" to which she didn't respond, but she sure got snotty.

Wife did not like Calvin so we compromised on Caleb. I was hoping it would shorten to Cal but instead he is still Caleb. Or someimes when I'm drinking its Lebby. Or if Im really drunk after a brutal O's loss its " damn it get in here and clean this mess!!!!

What was funny for me is as I said I had a dog growing up named Brady and my youngest brother's name is Tom. So, we had Tom and Brady. Irony of course is that Tom Brady is right up there with "insert your least favorite Yankee here's name" in the house on the dislike scale.

I think that a baby and/or pet (since they're basically the same) need to earn their name.

Then, and only then, will their name be appropriate.
