Jon Knott joins Twins

Boy Howdy

Jon Knott is one of those guys who carves up the minor leagues, one team sees him, signs him to some sort of contract, but he then proceeds to suck the joint up in the majors. Gotta love those guys.

Oh boy...Jon Knott is a god around here. I can't really firgure it out either, but he is beloved in these parts.

Jon Knott has never been given a chance in the majors. Where do you guys come up with this stuff? Are you in the O's front office or something?

He has had 31 at bats in the Major Leagues - yet you claim he sucks up the joint in the majors.

It always worries me when a smart team like the Twins picks up someone we dropped.

You mean the guys who cut David Ortiz? :)

Humor aside, I see your point. We've let Eric Byrnes, Gary Matthews, and Jack Cust go for nothing and among the three of them they've had the following seasons:

147 OPS+, 400 ABs

96 OPS+ with great defense, 562 ABs

104 OPS+ with great defense, 626 ABs

103 OPS+, 280 ABs

94 OPS+, 475 ABs

121 OPS+, 620 ABs

93 OPS+, 517 ABs

compare that to what we have gotten out of LF, CF, and DH in the past three years. Sad.

Backup QB syndrome. The guy on the bench who hasn't proved anything is more popular than the starter who's stinking up the joint.

Anyway, I echo Frobby's post...

You know that the Twins will give him a fair shot...

    • People are being a bit ridiculous with the holier than thou takes criticizing a little humor. I am not saying what happened couldn’t cause a significant concussion, but it would be a bit of a fluke if it did. Mullins barely hit him with the bat and he had a helmet on. The fact that it was in the back of the head did make him more vulnerable, but this wasn’t the type of thing you see and think he was lucky to be alive.  Guys have probably hit their heads harder on the top of the dugout or on the fence making catches.  And note this comes from someone whose son has suffered severe concussions and who is well aware of the dangers associated with them. In short, people need to lighten up a bit on guys like Roy.  It was a little gallows humor.
    • Yeah, you read that wrong. LA2 is one of my favorite posters here and he knows it. No harm, no foul. If you aren't familiar with the game threads, it doesn't matter what the team is doing, people complain about it and people did make that same joke in the game thread long before Roy said it here. Game thread in summary - when the O's are not doing well, it's insufferable, when they are doing well, it's mildly less insufferable. There, that wasn't hard. I'd appreciate it if you didn't assume I'm throwing shade at people. I'll leave that up to you to do, you're really good at it.
    • Comp a. Like Gunnar, and beavers…
    • Wasn't Westburg a 2nd round draft pick?  It's a little early to judge last year's draft.
    • Before Elias.  They generally haven’t missed on a 1st round or 1st round comp pick with the position players.   I trust they’ll make a good decision at #22 and #32.   Their track record in rounds 2-4, particularly on college position players and specifically the last three drafts is suspect.
    • Anyone want to guess what it would take to get Crochet from the White Sox?  We could send SG over to ask politely and remind them of what they missed out on Ortiz.  I'm sure that wouldn't stir up a hornet's nest.
