It's worse that it's a drug of abuse rather than a performance enhancing drug, IMO. To me it indicates he just doesn't care.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Billy...hope he saved some of the bonus money. Cut him...the message needs to be clear to all other minor leaguers.

I saw Billy play for Advanced- A Frederick when he was 19 years-old down in North Carolina. In a July 4th game against Winston-Salem, he hit 2 doubles and a home run, and he quieted an idiotic heckler. He was struggling overall that year, but he looked very good that night, and at that age (19), and already at that level (Advanced-A), he looked very much like he would have a future in the majors someday.

Very sad for me.

"Drug of abuse" can mean a lot of things besides your conventional pot, coke, heroin, etc. I don't want to speculate on what the guy was going through but I can understand him looking for an escape from everything.
