The energy at Camden Yards is amazing

I'm thinking of making a previously-unplanned run up to Baltimore at the end of the month for the Red Sox series. I'd really like to be part of the excitement.

I don't think you'll regret it! I too live in TN now, but broke down and decided a trip home was in order. Taking my sister to the 9/28 Friday night game... just picked up the tickets (plane and game) tonight :)

I was in the last section of the ballpark, about halfway to the top, but it didn't matter at all. To be there tonight was something special. Yes, I almost went into a fit the 12 year old me would have when they lost that lead, but that doesn't change the fact that the energy of the crowd and the emotion of the night was so awesome and brought out feelings and excitement in me I haven't felt in 15 years. Your eyes weren't deceiving you in thinking there was a lot of orange there last night, because there was. There were Yankee fans, but nowhere near as many as have been in the past, or as many as I'd expect to come in this weekend. Plus, the thing with Yankee fans is if they aren't winning, or in the game, you hear absolutely nothing from them.

It was an incredible night, from the crowd, to Cal's ceremony, to Wieters home run, everything. Truly something special to be a part of, and something I hope will live on every game from here on out, and that others can take part in.

I was on my own. So I walked around the lower bowl, stopping every few sections to lead the hagy cheer. If you heard it, it was me.

I am spent. I am numb. I almost cried when I walked in.

Just an amazing night.

I was holding tears back throughout the entire first inning. The sight of that crowd and the immediate response from the team was... amazing.

The rest of the game can't even be put into words.

I honestly don't remember it being that loud/ intense/ energetic in the 90's. It was like a football game- people cheering/ booing ever pitch, random people high fives, "Let's go O's" chants on the way out, I could not hear myself talk at times, sea of orange. Most memorable game I have ever been to and it counts for something. So excited right now, I think I might watch the recording of the game back just because I am that amped. Thank you Orioles.

I remember going to games in the 90s and it being full. I'm sure it was loud. I just... don't ever remember it being THAT loud.

What an amazing game. I'm so thankful that I was able to go. We've waited 14 years for this, and I wish I could put into words how amazing I feel right now.

I've got nothing. I'm speechless, though that could be because I lost my voice screaming.

I think you might be on to something here. As the sports commentator once said, it's better for all of baseball when the Orioles are good. I'm sure the fans in all cities are unique in their own way, but Baltimore fans are...uniquely unique, and Baltimoreans know what I mean.

That was probably the first time everyone on the team saw Camden Yards full and dialed to 11 (except Showalter). Maybe dialed to 12, because it's been a long time coming. And they responded, big time, against a team most Baltimoreans grow up detesting, starting with the sight of the uniform. Pro sports isn't just about athletics, but there's a show business element too.

This could be the start of a beautiful relationship.

My office is in the warehouse. I started working there in 1997, so I have been at the stadium nearly every day for the past 15 years, and I haven't seen a crowd during the day like there was today since the first year I worked there during the playoffs. There were actually O's fans there and milling around when I got there at 8 this morning...it was already getting crazy when I went to lunch...and was downright insane by the time I left at 5.

    • 41 freaking years and here's this guy with the name pickles telling me I should be happy with 91 wins and getting owned in the playoffs again. 😂 😂 I saw a team that looked terrible the second half and probably didn't even deserve that spot the way they were playing .
    • Lol. Here's the funny they know more then you know. Typical Oriole fan who's happy with getting punched in the mouth.
    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
    • Which core players beside Adley Rutschman struggled?
    • The entire commentary on Hyde and the team seems odd but have to admit there does seem to be something off.   Team seemed adrift for most of the 2nd half.  A very talented team went off the rails midway through the season mostly due to core players struggling and rookies not performing or filling in adequately for a few injured starters.    None of the position player trade line acquisitions performed that well.     Hyde seemed in over his head or at a loss on how to correct things, but he must have convinced Elias that he has a plan to fix things.  Curious to see what happens with the coaching staff.
