Jason Hammel Today, 2013

He was not particularly sharp. It seemed to me he threw a good amount of first pitch strikes and then fell behind 2-1, 3-1. I guess it was a tight strike zone, but not terrible. He did get quite a few gb outs. The number of innings was disappointing for a #1 pitcher.

I make this face-:( - when you don't include the middle names.

I rarely include the middle names in the pitching lines (although I did it for Josh Stinson in his MLB debut. I've since gone back to using only Joshua's first and last names.)

I usually do the 3 names on the game threads when a player hits a home run, and/or gets a big hit and/or makes an outstanding play.

Aside from the first inning, impressive outing.

The velocity continues to get higher on an average basis. Saw a lot of 94mph fastballs. Control isn't there just yet. But good to see the K's starting to pile up.

Just curious because I was at the game and didn't think Hammel would make it through five, but if it was Arrieta with the same line do you think you would call it impressive?

I would. If the ump had made the right call at 2nd, he would have been out of the 1st very quickly with no runs.

What call? Never mind, just went back and watched the stolen base by Trout.

He was clearly out.

Hammel got into trouble with his command, though, and had 12 base runners in six innings.

I think Hammel pitches his best game of the season tonight to cool off the Twins who thankfully took 3 of 4 in Beantown

Hammel needs to turn back into that guy he was last year before he went on the DL. He has the will but he just isn't getting the results.
