Longtime O's fan here, but the writings on the wall. Throw away the rose colored glasses. Not being negative, just realistic. Bucks stubbornness by sticking with JJ when struggling, and the teams inability to hit in clutch situations cost a LOT of W's this season.zach Britton, in the heat of a pennant race. REALLY ? FLAHERTY ? Wow. Why not try Manny batting 3rd? His feet are wet now, right? I don't profess to be Casey Stengel , but C'mon man!!!! Never saw a team hit so many foul pop ups to the catcher. I wonder what the stat is on that...we do lead the league in HRs though, lol. oh well, guess I will go fire up that hot stove....

I don't understand why if anyone says anything bad, they're immediately attacked. What, we're supposed to accept losing? Sometimes the truth hurts. This team IS playing like crap. The pitching and even the hitting sucks.

And if anyone can't see a split coming in the White Sox series, they need their head examined. THIS team OS not capable of beating anyone 3/4 let alone 4/4.

When you write an OP like that, you should be slammed. I'm not being negative, just realistic.

Here we go with this argument again. Nobody ever said anything about not complaining when they play badly, or lose. We had 14 years worth of that to go around, and when that's all you do, that's all you talk about. But, when you post a thread with an unintelligible OP post like that reeking of negativity, lack of imagination, and the same snarky attitude that people post as if to say "I told you this team wasn't good enough and now here I am," you should expect criticism and people to call you out on it. Nobody accepts losing on this site, NOBODY. But some people have a bit more clarity to see through it and see the forest for the tree's, no matter how hard it is.

And you're not even right in what you said. The O's beat the Red Sox 3/4 earlier in the year. They did the same thing to the A's. They swept the Yankees. The White Sox are awful, basically the O's of years past, and not the 2011 Orioles of years past. Does that mean the Orioles will win the series, I don't know, and nobody else does. But to say they can't is completely and utterly wrong.

We've played five straight series against playoff contenders, and we've lost four out of five of them. That's not negativity, that's reality.

And here's what a coherent, rational post looks like in contrast to the OP. It isn't just negative posts that get slammed; it's bad negative posts.

Didn't I see this same post a few days ago?

2.5 games out of a play off spot. With 4 games left against the Yankees and Rays, 6 with Boston.

Yankees play Boston 7 times and Rays 3 times

Rays play Boston 3 times.

There are games to be made up if we take care of our own business. It's NOT over yet, but we need a run quickly.

I really thought they would turn it on after beating the Indians on Monday, but instead...more of the same. Give the Indians credit. Now have to go 8-16 to reach .500. After watching this team struggle the past 3 months, thats all im hoping for.

This isn't the same team that beat the Red Sox 3/4 and went out west and took 3/4 against the A's and Angels earlier this year. Can we agree on that?

You could have said the same thing about the last 5 series against TB, OAK, BOS, NYY, and CLE. They went 6-9. They are 2 under .500 since the break. Why should we have any confidence that they can win 16-18 of their last 26 games? At some point, they are what they are.

    • 41 freaking years and here's this guy with the name pickles telling me I should be happy with 91 wins and getting owned in the playoffs again. 😂 😂 I saw a team that looked terrible the second half and probably didn't even deserve that spot the way they were playing .
    • Lol. Here's the funny they know more then you know. Typical Oriole fan who's happy with getting punched in the mouth.
    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
    • Which core players beside Adley Rutschman struggled?
    • The entire commentary on Hyde and the team seems odd but have to admit there does seem to be something off.   Team seemed adrift for most of the 2nd half.  A very talented team went off the rails midway through the season mostly due to core players struggling and rookies not performing or filling in adequately for a few injured starters.    None of the position player trade line acquisitions performed that well.     Hyde seemed in over his head or at a loss on how to correct things, but he must have convinced Elias that he has a plan to fix things.  Curious to see what happens with the coaching staff.
