Blaming Britton is inane. He allowed a single, got 2 grounders...and the 3rd one was a nubber that just managed to get Machado a bit off balance to not make the throw. Much different than Hunter who allowed line drive after line drive and only has/had a decent save percentage because he got lucky like 3 saves in a row.

Don't think anyone was blaming him. I was just stating that had he not blew it, there wouldn't be any of the "TJ blew it talk".

Yep, you got me. I am still upset the O's couldn't secure a lock down free agent closer.

Me wanting Hunter out of the role had nothing to do with his 6.06 ERA, his 69 ERA+ or his 1.83(!!!!) WHIP.

The numbers definitely help your argument but there was talk about ppl not wanting Hunter as the closer before the season. Ppl wanted, who at the time was our Lefty specialist in Matusz, to be the starting closer. People always threw Brittons name out there.

Let me ask yall this. Had Britton been the starting closer and Hunter was a setup guy. How do we know Britton got as many save opps as Hunter? How do we know Hunter wouldnt have blown them before Britton got a chance.

Which is why Britton should be where he is because he gets in the game more. He could pitch whether we were up, down, or tied. He wouldnt see as many appearances. Therefore wouldnt have a big of a impact on the team as he currently does, or did. IMO.

Britton has been awesome. And if he started the season as the closer I doubt we have as many wins as we do now.

For that matter, Guillmet could have pitched longer, as could Matusz (with the lefty Overbay leading off the 9th). Buck seems to have the idea that TJ is the long man and nobody else ever pitches more than an inning at a time.

Guillmet was lifted for a pinch hitter (Young, IIRC.) He would have had to hit to stay in the game.
