It's Time to Promote Trey Mancini

Well in fairness to Weiters, he was very valuable before his injury and obviously it's going to take some time for him to get back to form.

I guess we will find out on Mancini

And if Wieters was a first baseman, he has zippy value. If Mancini ends up with Wieters offensive profile he is not even a major leaguer.

Well, maybe not a good one, but there have been first basemen with relatively long careers and batting numbers like Wieters' career 100 OPS+:

                                                                                                                                                                                                 Rk Player WAR/pos OPS+ G From To Age PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB IBB SO HBP SH SF GDP SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS Pos Tm1 Tommy Tucker 25.1 102 1688 1887 1899 23-35 7273 6482 1084 1882 240 85 42 932 481 394 272 38 352 .290 .364 .373 .737 *3/8917 BAL-BSN-WHS-STL-BRO-CLV2 Bill Buckner 14.8 100 2517 1969 1990 19-40 10037 9397 1077 2715 498 49 174 1208 450 111 453 42 47 97 247 183 73 .289 .321 .408 .729 *37H9D LAD-CHC-BOS-CAL-KCR3 Dave Foutz 14.4 102 1136 1884 1896 27-39 4859 4537 784 1253 186 91 31 750 300 183 12 10 280 .276 .323 .378 .701 *319/786 STL-BRO4 Doug Mientkiewicz 11.9 100 1087 1998 2009 24-35 3844 3312 422 899 221 11 66 405 438 34 472 41 16 36 78 14 15 .271 .360 .405 .765 *3H/59D4 MIN-BOS-NYM-KCR-NYY-PIT-LAD5 Danny Cater 10.5 101 1289 1964 1975 24-35 4786 4451 491 1229 191 29 66 519 254 33 406 22 22 36 160 26 30 .276 .316 .377 .693 *375H/D948 PHI-CHW-KCA-OAK-NYY-BOS-STL6 Scott Hatteberg 10.0 101 1314 1995 2008 25-38 4876 4226 538 1153 249 7 106 527 562 27 503 42 15 31 117 3 8 .273 .361 .410 .772 *32DH/5 BOS-OAK-CIN7 Kitty Bransfield 10.0 98 1330 1898 1911 23-36 5386 4999 529 1351 225 75 13 637 221 384 24 142 175 .270 .304 .353 .657 *3/2 BSN-PIT-PHI-CHC8 Mike Jorgensen 9.3 101 1633 1968 1985 19-36 4034 3421 429 833 132 13 95 426 532 51 589 25 31 25 64 58 44 .243 .347 .373 .720 *3H79/8D MON-OAK-TEX-NYM-ATL-STL9 Dave Bergman 7.0 102 1349 1975 1992 22-39 3114 2679 312 690 100 16 54 289 380 36 347 7 21 27 55 19 14 .258 .348 .367 .716 *3HD/798 NYY-SFG-HOU-DET10 Ed Kranepool 4.4 98 1853 1962 1979 17-34 5997 5436 536 1418 225 25 118 614 454 89 581 14 35 58 138 15 27 .261 .316 .377 .693 *3H79/8 NYM11 Walt Dropo 3.2 100 1288 1949 1961 26-38 4522 4124 478 1113 168 22 152 704 328 12 582 24 22 23 166 5 6 .270 .326 .432 .757 *3H/5 BOS-DET-CHW-CIN-BAL12 Jim Spencer 2.7 98 1553 1968 1982 21-35 5408 4908 541 1227 179 27 146 599 407 86 582 17 35 42 124 11 19 .250 .307 .387 .694 *3DH/7 CAL-TEX-CHW-NYY-OAK13 Lee Stevens 2.0 98 1012 1990 2002 22-34 3724 3332 440 847 185 15 144 531 345 50 832 10 5 32 93 9 16 .254 .323 .448 .772 *3DH/97 CAL-TEX-MON-CLE14 Willie Montanez 1.5 102 1632 1966 1982 18-34 6407 5843 645 1604 279 25 139 802 465 103 751 24 10 65 162 32 42 .275 .327 .402 .729 *38H/9D7 CAL-PHI-SFG-ATL-NYM-TEX-SDP-PIT-MON

By my math he just took over the combined MILB lead in total bases with that HR today. Putting him at 239 TB on the year. Adam Duvall has 236 between two AAA teams. Of course Duvall has 26 Hr's in the PCL and is 26. Just shows how impressive Mancini has been this year. He's putting up big numbers by hitting doubles not just HR's in hitter's ball parks.

I, unknowingly, saw Trey's first game in AA up in Portland earlier this year. He did not looked fazed hitting against Justin Masterson, who was AA on read and featured a wicked slider that night.

He was just released by the Red Sox wasn't he?

Other notable player(prospects) stats in the Eastern League this year:

G PA R H 2b 3b HR RBI BB K

Conforto 45 173 21 54 12 3 5 26 23 35 .312/.396/.503

Promoted to MLB. Ranked as #19 prospect in MILB. 22 yrs old 1st rd pick 2014

A. Judge 63 250 36 71 16 3 12 44 24 70 .284/.350/.516

#20 prospect. The guy NYY was unable to move at the trade deadline. 23 yrs old. 1st rd pick 2013.

Let's get simpler.

Josh Bell (#37,23 in 3 days) 368 AB's 806 OPS

Eric Jagielo. Manicini's college teammate that was drafted by NYY in rd 1. 23 yrs old. .842 OPS

C.Walker 2014 season. 366 AB's .884 OPS @age 23

Mancini is 23 w/226 AB's .970 OPS. I think the "prospect" lists are slow to catch up on this guy. We'll see him on September 1st. As of now we're only set to see 2 more LH starters the rest of the month. D.Duffy in the KC series. Hamels in the Texas series. It's hard to pick a player he should go for, as I doubt we cut bait with Reimold at this point. But we could go without Flaherty. He's only had 3 AB's this month anyway.

There was a point in recent days where Mancini had caught up to Judge in the BB/K ratio - something in the 1:3 range - with the recent BBs taken by Mancini. Judge was 24/70 in AA while, Mancini - who a couple days ago was at the same ratio, but with half the BBs and Ks at 12/35 is now 13/36.

Meanwhile, Judge has been awful in AAA the last 10 games with a .114 average and 19 Ks in 35 PAs with 5 BBs.

Article today in milb.com in which Mancini credits a new stance with some of his improvement.

http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20150811&content_id=142399916&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb

This is why mid season prospect lists on like Baseball America are meaningless. There are way too many players in baseball to see them all. Mancini as our #12 prospect. That's laughable.

I would be very surprised if we saw him on September 1st. He doesn't need to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason, so there is no reason to have him take up a spot. DD values roster flexibility and I fully expect him to find a hidden gem with that extra roster spot this offseason. No reason to bring him up for 10 plate appearances at the cost of that flexibility.

Roch says there may be some roster changes by tomorrow. Trey Mancini is the guy I want to see called up. I'd like to see if his bat can boost the O's. Heaven knows they need something.

If we need to DL Wieters I would like to see 3 changes, if not I would like to see 2 changes:

DL Wieters = Clevenger

DFA Reimold = Mancini

DFA Lough = Urrieta

If no DL of Wieters:

DFA Reimold = Mancini

DFA Lough = Clevenger

Put Clevenger in as the DH and let Mancini play 1B.

It's time, none of Parades, Lough, Reimold have shown anything for a really long time. If we stink down the stretch at least stink down the stretch with guys that can help (or find out if they can help) next year.

One move will probably be Lake optioned to the minors. Buck is only playing him versus lefties and that may not hold a spot at this point.
