Should the O's consider signing Stephen Drew to back up Hardy for 2 years?

I haven't had any interest in Stephen Drew for years, but...

- Still a good defender

- Veteranocity

- Left-handed bat with some pop

- Flaherty has too weak an arm to play the left side of the infield

- Hardy could need a good bit of rest

- Probably won't get an offer to start anywhere

So, I've been thinking that signing Drew to a 2/5 deal wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Am I wrong? (probably)

2/5? If that was the contract, sure. Kind of makes me worry about Hardy's future health if that's the thinking.

Considering his back and shoulder problems, I think being concerned about his future health is warranted.

I read too quickly. I thought this was the Orioles thinking and not yours. My point is if the Orioles are thinking about Drew they must be very concerned about Hardy.

Since we have to pinch every penny, it doesn't make sense. Flaherty, Machado and Janish would be fine if a fill in role. Plus the usual milb depth.

Maybe you could actually stay on topic in a thread every now and then. It might slow down your Orioles bashing, but probably not. You'd just have to exercise a little more thought before you post.

I still think Flaherty as a replacement for JJ is the way to go. Anything over a couple of weeks, or stretching into months would be hard to overcome with or without Drew.

Actually,if he could DH some maybe...I don't know. Thinking about this off-season makes my head hurt.

You just adjust his attributes on the video game. It's easy. Also, waiting until the season plays out to make your predictions help tons.

I don't think Drew as insurance is a bad idea. I'm not convinced that he won't find a starting job though or a better opportunity for more playing time.

Thought exercise: Cruz at shortstop. By my back-of-the-napkin math he would have had to have been a -70 fielder to be replacement level overall. Could he have pulled that off?
