Ike Davis just non-tendered by Oakland. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see DD make a run at him.

At least he's a left-handed Davis

Davis has the same strengths and weaknesses as Lucas Duda, but his strengths aren't as strong and his weaknesses are weaker. When the Mets had both of them, fans were pretty evenly split over which one to keep. The Mets traded Davis and kept Duda, and that looks like a real good decision. Davis had been regressing ever since. There's some LHed pop there, but no versatility.

Interesting considering how quickly they rushed him to the majors.

Tyler Flowers’ attention to pitch framing is paying off. In Baseball Prospectus’ latest rankings of catchers, Flowers ranked second in the major leagues.

“It’s nice to see some statistical improvement,’’ Flowers said Tuesday. “It’s something I put a lot of effort, thought and time into, evaluating it to see how I can be better.’’

Framing gives the illusion to the umpire that a ball just off the plate actually crossed it. A little past the halfway point of the 2014 season, Flowers and Sox video coordinator Brian Johnson analyzed Flowers and the catchers most skilled at framing. Until then, Flowers thought he was pretty good at framing low pitches. A closer look changed his outlook, and he began focusing his efforts on low pitches.

“We found the common characteristic [of the best framers] was getting the low pitch called,’’ Flowers said.

“Guys can improve at it. I’m an example of that. I typically re-watch every game that night or the next morning to see it.’’

#Orioles have acquired C Francisco Pena from the Royals in exchange for cash considerations. Paul Janish DFAed.? Eduardo A. Encina (@EddieInTheYard) December 3, 2015

Wasnt he a NT candidate himself? Seems odd to add a 3rd catcher that might cost more than $1M.

EDIT: guess i am thinking of wrong player

    • Funny thing is, if the O's win, I'm generally so psyched on my way out that I don't even notice all of these annoyances. I'm just happy that the team won. That was my experience a lot this year when the team was doing well. Unfortunately about half of my 13 game season ticket plan was in August and September, plus I got to watch one of the pathetic WC games. You can smooth over a fair bit of fan annoyance with winning, but at the end of the day, someone has to care about the little things and actually invest money to make them better. There's no longer any question about whether the O's will be here to stay. The government and the team are aligned: OPACY and the Orioles are here, and we're going to make the best of what we have, and make it a centerpiece of Baltimore. That's great. But now they have to put their money where their mouths are. Show fans from all walks of life that we are able to reimagine OPACY and the surrounding area in the image of an efficient, clean, 21st century facility, starting with things as basic as infrastructure and plumbing, and ranging as far as parking, public trans, and food at the park. Honestly? I sort-of understood why they weren't investing in anything in the years when (1) the team was bad, and (2) ownership wasn't invested in the team, and (3) the renewal of the lease with the Maryland Stadium Authority was in doubt. The vast majority of points (1), (2) and (3) above are now non-issues, or have been majorly mitigated in the past 2 years. So it's time to make things right. Otherwise why bother with the long-term commitment at all, if you're just going to let the project languish?

    • I still think Soto (Juan, not any of the others) checks off all the boxes here.  Insanely productive, plays hard, can rub opponents the wrong way on the field but is generally liked off of it.

    • Things looking bleak for KC. They left 11 runners on base, got a taste of their own medicine, I guess.
