Os Sign O'Day for 4 Years - It's official

Nevermore

I'll toss this out here. If O'Day signs elsewhere, maybe the Os try to get Holland on a cheaper 1 year deal for the closer role, and move Britton back to the rotation to replace Chen? I thought I've heard Britton would still prefer to be a starter. Most likely not going to happen though.

Holland had Tommy John surgery just a couple of months ago.

Only way signing him makes any sense is a 2-3 year deal and even that would be rather irregular.

I don't imagine Holland will be pitching in 2016.

I kept thinking Holland was hurt much earlier. Maybe someone like Joakim Soria? I'm sure they'll keep Britton in the closer role, but I think I'd rather see them try to bring in a cheaper option, move Britton to the rotation vs adding someone like Kazmir, assuming they do want a lefty to replace Chen. There's not many choices out there.

The Final Boss is still out there right?

Pet peeve of mine: People saying "Twitter says...". Anyone can have a Twitter account. WHO says that?

Dan said there is no intention of a change in Britton's role. And Britton has no desire to change at this late date. I heard them both say that with their own voices.

Soria wants 3 year deal.

Baker is an arm abuser of veteran relievers? I haven't heard that.

I said arm abuser. I didn't say to what kind of pitcher.

Here are some articles:

Criticism[edit]

Additionally, many fans, commentators, and writers have blamed his tendency to overuse pitchers for damaging the careers of Robb Nen, Kerry Wood, Mark Prior and Edinson Volquez.[16] Wood and Prior suffered serious arm injuries following their first full seasons under Baker. Wood and Prior averaged 122 and 126 pitches per start, respectively, in their final six regular-season starts of 2003.[17] In later years, Baker's teams featured players throwing fewer pitches, and some baseball writers have noted there's no clear link between pitches thrown and injuries suffered.

There have been many articles about Baker abusing arms over the years and the reputation follows him whereever the goes.

If you are O'Day and you know that Buck is very careful with your workload (as Britton just stated on Hot Stove last night) vs Baker's reputation, who do you want to play for?
