Jim Palmer said he may be the fastest player in the American League.

Rickards batting average is 29 points higher than our DH Alvarez...

His average is 16 points higher than Adam Jones who has been batting leadoff lately.

OBP is more important than BA. Not that Jones has a good OBP, but that's a different story. After a great start, Rickard has been very mediocre.

Using batting average and ERA as key measurements of a player's skill won't get you very far.
