Win tomorrow and the Jays could be on the ropes

It never is. :(

It's more important that Boston is playing for something against Toronto.

I agree here. A few days ago I was worried Boston would clinch home field too early. Now it looks like they may be out of contention for home field tomorrow night. A rainout in Boston might just make the situation worse by showing Boston the Tex outcomes. Have to hope the Indians actually try to win a couple and threaten home field in the 2-3 ALDS to light a fire under the Sox.

At this point, isn't the best outcome to hope for a DET makeup on Monday, then DET flying to TOR and winning on Tuesday, then coming to OPACY on Wednesday?

Would have to think their pen would be toast and really hard to win three games in three cities in three days. That ignores the fact that they may have to win in ATL on Sunday.

That would be absolutely ideal, but if the Tigers win, the Orioles are playing with fire.

This will be a highly emotional weekend. Teixeira's farewell series in the Bronx, Big Papi's in Boston.

Never thought I'd be rooting for David Ortiz to have a big weekend, did you?

Don't forget the emotions running high in Atlanta, where fans will be saying goodbye to beloved historic Turner Field, the Braves' home for lo these many years. [emoji1]

Has a team ever abandoned a perfectly good baseball stadium for another in their own city before?

I'm not counting the following as "perfectly good":

- Multi-purpose sports arenas shaped like an ashtray and shared with the NFL

- Ill-conceived domes where men in stretchy polyester played

- Ancient stadia from 100+ years ago that were tiny, wood, etc (i.e. Baker Bowl, Hilltop Park)

- Expanded minor league parks - Parc Jerry, Arlington Stadium

I suppose this is more like a continuum, but the Braves are still breaking new ground in funneling tax dollars into their accounts.

The Texas Rangers are actually trying to build a brand new stadium even though their current stadium is less than 25 years old. There's a good chance it won't pass the council vote in November though.

If voters agree to pay for half of a $1 billion stadium, the Texas Rangers will stick around Arlington long enough to celebrate the team's 80th anniversary.

City leaders and Rangers officials formally announced Friday afternoon their plans to extend the Rangers' stay by building a retractable-roof stadium adjacent to the existing one. The city and team would share the cost evenly, with the Rangers responsible for overruns.

The stadium is expected to open no later than the 2021 season, nearly three years before the team's contract to play at Globe Life Park expires. The team, which moved from Washington to Arlington in 1972, would be committed to the city through the 2053 season. The new venue would be built in parking lots across Randol Mill Road from the current stadium.

The City Council is scheduled to vote on a stadium agreement Tuesday. That agreement would need to be vetted by the state comptroller's office. In August, the council is expected to vote to place the proposition on the Nov. 8 election ballot.

Even though the O's are now tied with the BJ's, ESPN gives Toronto a 90% chance of making the playoffs and the O's a 67% chance. I guess they think the Yankees are a tougher opponent than Boston.
That's not updated. Check again in the morning.

Updated: O's 88.7%, Jays 86.2%.

Uh-oh. Negative juju. The Jays could be getting tight. The Orioles seem very loose right now. There's just no sense that they're worried, come what may. That's all Buck, IMO. I still believe we have the best manager in baseball. I don't agree with everything he does - but harping on that would be not seeing the forest for the trees.

The thing that separates buck from others IMO is this exact ability.

The buck Orioles are not scared of any opponent or any situation. Before buck, during the dark era, the Orioles looked like they shrunk especially in the Bronx and Fenway

They were eliminated tonight. That will take some wind out of their sails. Having to play meaningless games (for them) in crap weather, just counting the hours until 6PM Sunday when the long grind is over and they can return to the warmer climes most of them hail from and live a life of leisure.

At least that applies to the veterans. The Kiddie Korps might have a little fight left.

Plus elimination means Tanaka is definitely shut down, he was iffy to pitch anyway. Their bullpen is a hot, tired mess.

I don't buy this for a minute. They have a chance to do to the Orioles what the Orioles did to the Red Sox in 2011. They are playing for something, to spoil.
