Kruk Bashes O's

Baseball Tonight was talking about Sam being fired and how it wasnt his fault and that it went way beyond him. They were talking about how the bullpen was supposed to hold leads but they didnt.

Then Kruk went on to say that that O's job as manager would be the last thing he would do and would sign with every other team before he would sign with the O's.

I was about to post a thread on this, ill just put it here.

Phillps and Kruk both say that they think Mazzonne will stay, and of course Davey Johnson and Girardi are the leading names being thrown around.

What I don't like is when discussing the woes of the O's, Kruk throws in "If Im a Manager out there I would take any other job before taking the job there, its the last team I would want to manage"

Steve Phillips added that the team is no where near contending and its almost entirely due to our bullpen.

This team has a lot of young talent, and even more in the farm system, I can think of many teams I would rather not manage if Im a Manager looking for a job.

Kruks a fool.

Jeeeze! Boy we can cross him off the list... too bad I wanted Kruk to manage! Ah, maybe the next time... ;)

I guess Phillips hasn't been watching the team play.

Just ripped this team apart on Baseball Tonight. Granted, I don't think either of these guys are particularly bright. Their main points were as follows:

1) Phillips: Perlozzo not the problem, the bullpen is the problem

He is correct here, but fails to realize the lineup was the even bigger problem

2) Both: The team is horribly put together, and the blame should be on Flanagan moreso than Perlozzo.

I tend to agree here, altough Perlozzo definitely should've been fired.

3) Kruk said he talked to Perlozzo, and is convinced Mazzone will stay because he really loves the pitching staff.

Cosidering this is coming from someone bashing the O's, this is good news.

4) Kruk: He would take any managing job in baseball over the Orioles job.

5) Both: The Orioles are not only bad, they are becoming irrelevant

Just for the record, Kruk didn't say it was the last job HE would take, he said if He was one of the many various available managers, he would want anything but Baltimore.

Im sure even he knows he would be terrible on the bench.

I'm not sure how F&D were spared this axe. It's their contracts and trades on the field. Unless they have convinced PA that he nixed a few trades that would have immensely helped the team, they should be gone.

MacPhail is a nice step in the right direction, but there are other baseball people I'd rather have than the F&D calling the shots.

    • Now overall I notice 29 K's in 17 innings. That ratio of 1.7 is top of the line for a starter!
    • Urias looks pretty cooked too though, and he's not providing the kind of defensive flexibility that Mateo is, and he doesn't have very good splits for platooning.  At least for 2023 and 2024 Mateo has had good platoon splits.
    • SSS but Holliday was playing incredible defense after like the first game or two when he seemed to have some jitters.  He had +3 OAA in a very short span.  Mateo has looked a little awkward at 2nd to be honest, and he's not the best at making the double play turn.
    • Hoping for a speedy recovery. That all happened fast. Not my initial impression reading the write up.
    • McCann looks cooked but he's in his last year and our options at backup C aren't great unless we're willing to trade for one.  But I'm not giving up a lot for a backup C.   I'd like to find a replacement for Urias.  He didn't look great last year and he's being thrust into a role that he's not really cut out for right now.  I don't think he's getting the 2022 magic back.  Maybe Westburg can go to 3rd full time and one of our 5 AAA 2nd basemen can work in with Mateo at 2nd.
    • I quoted myself, because I wanted to share something with you all.  I have memory issues.  Nothing full blown or anything, but I don't recall things nearly as well as I once did.  I mention this because it occurred to me that I posted a very similar thing about McCann last year, and he performed notably better in the 2nd half.  At least I believe so.   It's not that I feel I'm exactly wrong about McCann, but rather that he showed himself to be better just last season and could do so again.  I hope so. Memory issues are nothing to be ashamed of, though I'd be pretending if it didn't bother me.  I've been dealing with this for maybe five years or so, though it gets worse every year.  At 59, that's younger than most that have such issues.   I'm sure in a forum as populated as this one, there could be others going through what I am.  It is what it is... it's life, and I hope you're all doing your best with it.
    • Estrada and Tejada both continued their recent surges today.  Estrada was 2 for 4 with a double, while Tejada was 3 for 3  with a homer.  Tejada has his OPS up to .737, not bad for a league where .654 is average.  Estrada is at .628 and climbing.
