One could make the argument that the entire problem, the entire reason for this season is due to Chris Tillman's complete collapse as a major league pitcher.  Even a mediocre 3 or 4 more wins from him and we would be easily positioned in the wildcard.  Last year, 16 wins, this year, 1....add say a dozen wins this year if we had the Tillman performance of 2016 and we would be in first place in the division.

It would be nice if our GM brought in one capable SP. Just one. He was given Bundy, Gausman & Tillman. The AL is down, there were significant prizes to be won with 1 decent SP.

I concur.  I made the argument in April that Chris Tillman's "issue" was going to have a bigger impact on the AL Race than David Price's "issue".  Essentially, my point was that no matter how bad Price was hurt and how much time he missed, the Red Sox would simply move forward and if they had to replace him.  The Orioles on the other hand almost have to have success from Chris Tillman and his complete disappearance has been the single biggest road block because we do not have the depth to replace him.  I think I made my case in the They all break thread.

Now, is it really accurate to say he was given those guys?  Yes they were here.  But many here have suggested those guys be moved and there were calls the last two years to unload Bundy and or Gausman before their value reached zero.  My point is, they ARE his.  Every single player in the system is even the ones under contract.  He could have traded any of em or let em go like he did Miggy.  So, it would be more accurate to say that IF we had perhaps 1 more decent SP.....

Do you disagree?

Serenity is for the offseason.  Lol

We lost out on Miguel Gonzalez.   Matt Moore has cleared waivers and would be an upgrade on Jimenez or Tillman (not a very high bar, admittedly).  Despite tonight's loss, the O's still have a fighting chance at the playoffs if they can even get mediocre starting pitching on a consistent basis.   There is no help coming from the farm--a trade makes sense, and it doesn't sound like the Rangers had to give up anything special for Miggy.

It's a bad time for me to reply to this. Watching Hellickson throw a game away is eating me up, I'll have more tact at my disposal as the game wears off. More tact when it comes to all things Duq, the adrenaline in my system is going to be good fuel for another night of hitting my heavy bag. Unfortunately I had to cut up my gloves to make shoes for my old dog who keeps chewing up her feet ?

Anyway, right now - especially with the Nats game on in the other room - I'm in a bad place for Duq discussion. ZD just made easy work of Washington & we got pummeled by a lineup that should have been carved up. I don't want to be a jack... because no one here deserves that, but I everything in my mind, regarding Duq, is negative right now and I can't give him credit for not trading Bundy bc a fan was ready to. If he had done that you'd see cumberbundy on an ID special.

You gentlemen are too knowledgeable, generous, & kind for one of my bs moods after a loss. Ill return tomorrow without violating the terms of my pact not to rehash what we've given up and to remain pleased with what we've got.

Tomorrow we start a new steak. I had to go for a walk a bit ago, I need to get the negative energy out, it serves no purpose!

Go O's!

    • I honestly think there is very little difference in most the teams that made the playoffs.  The most wins was 98 wins and there was 12 teams with 86 wins or more.  It also seems that many of the teams are on the same page with scouting and analytics now hitting wise.  Years back you had moneyball which the A’s used before anyone else.  Then the Astros and few teams started with analytics and seemed to be ahead of the rest of the league but they have caught up now imo.  Now the move seems to be on launch angle and hitting homers by getting the ball in the air but that seems to be across the league.  Obviously some teams have more money and more talented players but the strategy seems about the same.  The main differences I see is in pitching in the playoffs which is bullpen games and using openers rather then a starter to go 7 innings and carry your team to win now a slight sign of trouble they are taking them out.  With all these short inning guys and pitching them in certain pockets we are seeing very little offense and the hitting with runners in scoring position has been awful.  It all comes down to RISP at bats and getting 1 or 2 big base hits in those situations.  We just haven’t been able to get those hits so far in short series.
    • And we've seen similar with Kjerstad. Kjerstad might be the best pure hitting prospect in the Orioles system of recent years besides Gunnar. I want to see him playing everyday next year is possible none of this sitting him versus LHP more often than not. These prospects need to get their reps and stop treating them like John Lowenstein and Benny Ayala.
    • I don’t see Elias trading off prospects anymore at least top guys.  We have moved a few guys in last year and I expect they try to build that back up.  They should have money to use if they want to add talent.
    • Blah, well Rob Manfred has to be happy along with Fox network. A Yankees-Mets World Series match up is still on the table and the Dodgers as well if they win tomorrow. I knew the Royals would get jettisoned by the Yankees without too much of a fight.
    • For Mountcastle …Maybe Chase Petty and Tristan Smith?
    • I’m guessing they ask for Mayo or Basallo of Kjerstad. For me …I’d give them Kjerstad since he’s defensively challenged IMO. Maybe Kjerstad, McDermott, Beavers, and O’Ferrall?
    • 192 wins in two seasons is a pretty strong argument to stay the course.  That said, I wonder if the young players wouldn't be better off long-term if the scientific matchups took a back seat to the raw talent a little more than we've seen.  Overthinking something can be a thing you know.
