I don’t think he opens up that much from couple times I have seen him.  He doesn’t it but no more then most young pitchers.  He is basically Kevin Gausman on most nights.  Mid 90s fastball above average change/split decent command both have slurry type secondaries which holds them back from being top of rotation starters unless the find a better breaking ball.  Gausman has more upside because some starts he can get that upper 90s fastball but most starts he is mid 90s.  He could easily be 4th or 5 starter with little extra command.  The issue I have when people say well he just a middle inning reliever.  You know what with starters going less and less 6 innings or even 5 a middle inning reliever is big asset in today’s game.  You need that gap guy to get to the top bullpen arms you have.

I still hope he can be more. At worst, our next Mychel Givens...hopefully.

He doesn’t have the velocity and movement Givens had.  I think he could be someone like Miguel Gonzalez  with little improved command the Orioles had as back end rotation piece or the Vance Worley over his career a middle inning spot starter type.

Could be. I thought Miggy had another pitch or two but I could see that. The Gausman comp wasn't bad either. I really wonder who Coaches these guys. Teach them another pitch.

Alcala has very solid raw numbers so far this season (ERA, WHIP, and Opponents' Batting Average.)

He also has a high Strikeout Ratio (30 Strikeouts over 28.33 Innings Pitched, good for a 9.529 Per-9-Innings rate.)

A bad game.

In his last outing, Ramirez was high on ceding Home Runs (3), and low in ceding Singles (1.)

Today he was relatively low in ceding Home Runs (1), and high in ceding Singles (5) ........ and he also ceded 4 Free Passes (3 Walks and 1 Hit Batsman) over only 5 Innings Pitched.

In 3 out of his 5 Innings Pitched today, he ceded double-digits in the Balls category ........ which is very rare (and bad) for a starting pitcher.
