Works for me if the front office likes the return.  But don’t make a trade to just make a trade.

I don't know if VVM is the best international player this season.

He is the most ML ready and might have the highest floor.

Yeah, he's the best combination of floor and upside. The majority of the 16 year olds have a floor of not making it out of rookie ball, but some turn into Altuve or Soto.

Brad Brach was at zero WAR this year, meaning by definition we can bring up a replacement level AAA pitcher and replace his production immediately.

We still owed Brach 2.25M for the remainder of the season, so even if we spend every penny of that slot money, we save 2M.  Great trade.

Same can be said for Jones, IMO.  I think that he would pass through revocable waivers, don't you?

I think he would be claimed.  If multiple teams are willing to trade for him now and assume his salary why wouldn't he be claimed in August when he's cheaper?

If he makes it clear he won't accept a trade I don't see why teams would claim him.

Would he be worth claiming just to block the Phillies?  Maybe.
