What has been cool so far is that there are so many position players in that very conversation: Smith, Jr.; Severino; Alberto; Nunez; Mancini (even though the expectations were higher for him), and, who knows, Broxton and Wilkerson may be on that list come July or August. The take-away so far, I think, is that, regardless of W/L record, the upward surprises have been so much more enjoyable than the downward disappointments of last season.

Yes, and I agree with @Redskins Rick.  As bad as this team can be, I like watching them.  For me, as much as I like DSJR,  think Nunez is the clubhouse leader for biggest surprise of the season.  But you can make cases for any of them and I wouldn't really argue it.

The one annoying part is that list is all position players. John Means has been a great surprise...other than that, at least a lot of the minor league guys have taken steps forward this year.

and for now, at least, we have reasonable amount of hope, that the sons are in charge, as well as  Elias and Sig are two bright minds and have a plan for this team.

He did, and good comparison defensively. Of course, Reimold's arm was strong but it didn't play well due to accuracy issues.

Outfield defense got so bad at the end of Buck's reign that Reimold was used as a defensive replacement in 2016.  And it's still an issue now with DJ Stewart being the backup CF. At least Hyde made no illusions yesterday that the outfield situation is ideal when walking in the pregame show.

none of these are the Calvary and expected to be here in 3 years.

They are stop gap playing now, while the team reloads.

IMO

Also the prospects are not going to be rushed. Mountcastle could probably be up right now, but he isn't. And if you really want to see the future look at Delmarva and those players are all 2-3 years away. Maybe second half of 2020 if a player just blazes through the farm system.

good point.

My use of the term reload, did not specifically mean outside or inside the org.

We will find some of the prospects from within, and I suspect a few from outside, as Elias works his mojo.

Elias doesn't have much capital, but I'm looking forward to seeing what trades he makes this year and next.

I’ve seen far worse than Reimold.

LF: -9 Rtot/yr, -3 Rdrs/yr, -4.6 UZR/150

OF: -10 Rtot/yr, 0 Rdrs/yr, -5.8 UZR/150

Those numbers are below average, but not terrible.

Smith is on pace for -9, -11, -10.4.   So, as bad as Reimold on Rtot/yr, worse on the other measures.

To my eye, Smith and Reimold are about equally bad at judging fly balls and route efficiency.    But Reimold was faster and had a much better arm.

My eye test completely w/o regard to stats - Reimold was the single worst LFer I have ever seen wear a major league uniform.  Every single ball he had to go back and to his right on was an adventure.  The few times I saw him in RF, he wasn't bad - just had zero instincts in LF.

I do not agree that he doesn't have much capital.

I believe the org, pared down the payroll, as no use wasting money on a rebuild.

As Weams always says, there is money there for the right person.

I meant trade capital as in players. Last year Duquette had Manny, while Elias best trade pieces are Mancini, Cashner and perhaps Bundy.

People fixate on the decision to hold back on Britton in the Wild Card game but Reimold played a big role in that disaster.

I forgot about Means. I went back and fixed it.

    • It did look like they already have their game legs back--maybe in time to make that dream come true. I live in Brooklyn and it's going to be a challenge to hold my place and my lip in the sports bars over the next three days (unless I go to one filled with Mets fans who are just letting one screen tune into the game in the Bronx).
    • Haha, yeah--Try to "Mooo!" that and see what happens.
    • Adley was 2022, not sure if Gunnar was 2022 or 2023, I think he was also 2022.
    • Oh, I thought you were taking about his hitting in high leverage situations.
    • Frustrating sure, but boring is not what I would I say. We do steal bases at times. I would like for us to play more small ball sometimes and it is frustrating to see us be so homerun happy. I think with Westy back, we will see a resurgence of timely hitting as that is very contagious.   We saw that at the beginning of the year. Amazing sight to see for sure. I think the most disheartening thing that really shocked me is the apathy and outright disgust I’ve seen from O’s fans toward their team. Perhaps we have been spoiled? No idea. Maybe expectations were too high? No idea, but frankly, a lot of yall focusing on other things and simply not watching/posting would make next season a lot more enjoyable. This is the first time since 96-97 where we make the playoffs in back to back years and you guys have been acting like some real lame jerks this whole dang season. Frankly, yall should be ashamed of yourselves. We are an incredibly young team and with that come highs and lows, but yall don’t see that. You just love to complain and moan and bloviate. Where’s the heart? Where’s the loyalty? Where’s the gratitude? You’d think with all this team has overcome, especially being so young, y’all would be happy, but no. So go off on your little bike rides or whatever. Go watch a movie if this saga seems boring to you. I don’t care. Just for once this season, keep your immense negativity to yourself.
    • Really an amazing run, 4 straight years. I completely agree with the ranking, too. There's no way Kjerstad is still a prospect though, right? 45 days is the cutoff and he's played in 48 games.
    • i think we all are going to have ptsd from that 9th inning for a while,it was that brutally bad . they need to do some special to get us to forget about it
