The A's have actually been somewhat respectable since June of last year.
The White Sox just got their 10th win yesterday, making them an abysmal 10-28, but that doesn't look so bad compared to the 10-45 start Oakland got off to last year. Chicago would have to lose their next 17 games to match that.
It’s not October yet. We’re on pace for 107 wins even with the Kimbrel blown saves. We’re only asking our SP to go 90-100 pitches so of course we’re going to be relying on our bullpen a ton. Heck, they’re covering 33% - 40% of the outs even on a “good” night for the SP. So yeah, outside of Kimbrel, they’ve been really good.
Because there is no obvious successor to Mountcastle from a fielding perspective. They just want as many options as possible. I think we all think Mayo or Kjerstad ends up at first, but maybe the Orioles have concerns about both as fielders? Or maybe they just want a 4th OF with some additional flexibility.
