Based on what we've seen of Chris Davis' worth ethic there's no chance he gained all that weight in that amount of time naturally.

I think this is something to watch as well. I think it has always been very noticeable that he carries a heavier bat than the average player. He certainly did in his prime. I may be remembering wrong, but I don't recall him ever using a smaller bat as he has aged (and, IMO, his bat speed has decreased) and last year when he played at a lighter weight. If his weight gain does not produce the desired results, he should be trying a lighter bat.

The average MLB bat is 32 ounces, clearly 33 isnt the 54 ounces of Ruth and there were a few in 40s, back in previous decades. I found this tidbit, which Im sure wont impress most of OH Quote strong MLB players from the past you think of Frank Howard of the Washington Senators. "Hondo" as he was called used a gargantuan 37-inch, 35-ounce bat to clobber 382 home runs during his 16-year career.
Can_of_corn
Davis switched to a heavier bat after Thome suggested it. As far as I know he hasn't switched back.

Geeze, if thats all we had to do, to fix his bat speed problems. :):)

A bigger guy like Davis with a bigger frame could. I'm sure he hired a full time trainer and food specialist. He already had the mass, just needed to convert it. Now if he had a smaller frame and big growth, ala Barry Bonds, I'd say...yeah. Also, if he was looking into retiring he probably wasn't working out as hard. True, But, I still think it some cases, its a mental thing, he is overthinking it. So he doesn't have the work ethic/discipline to rework his swing, but I'm to believe he does have it to drastically transform his body in a very short amount of time? I buy the 25 pounds, but I'm betting that includes water weight and isn't all lean muscle mass.
