Players put on the 60 (now 45) day IL are paid their major league salary.   I don't see the O's doing that with Blach.  O's would DFA him from the 60 man roster but the O's will pay Blach a minor league salary.

I would think that is true, they would not want teams like the Orioles to purposefully DFA a bunch of players and keep stacking their taxi squad. Because let’s face it: I know, you know, everybody knows that a lot of the Oriole forty man is filler.

Well specifically in Blach’s case because he’s basically org filler. But if Rutschman (god forbid) gets a season ending hangnail they’d have to be able to have the option to place him on the 45-day IL even if he’s not on the 40-man.

Though I have been hoping 3.5. 

5 WAR would tie him with 2019 Pete Alonso...who hit 53 HRs! Mountcastle would be a Top 10 outfielder with 5 WAR. If he has one year of 5 WAR he would be on his way to being an Oriole legend. If he has seven years of @ 3 WAR/year, totaling 20+ WAR, would he not also qualify as an Oriole legend?

When I say a 2-3 WAR guy, I mean a guy who can sustain that level for a few years. It’s not as easy as it seems.    Trey Mancini was worth 3.5 rWAR last year with an .899 OPS.

Adam Jones was worth 3 WAR five times for us, never hitting 5. Markakis was worth 3 WAR twice, over 5 once. So yeah, it's tough.

(All bWAR, fWAR was even a bit worse as Jones only hit 3 four times)
