A young, high upside OFer making no money is appealing to a lot of teams..it’s just a matter of how much you believe in him as a player.

Santander was the O's best offensive player this year, and he's controllable for some time.  It's not like the O's have some great offense -- or some great defense.  Trading him makes little sense unless the O's think he's an injury risk going forward or because the player(s) coming back is someone they obviously couldn't refuse -- a steal of some kind.

Mountcastle had a higher OPS+, wOBA, and wRC+.  So did Iglesias.

Santander plays the one position where the Orioles have real depth.  He isn't a guy who walks a lot and his BA isn't great, so he will struggle to be even a 320 OBP guy.  He plays an adequate OF and has a lot of power.  He certainly could be a 2-3 WAR type guy and perhaps spike a year or 2 of being a 4+ WAR guy.  The upside is there for that.

Still, he is replaceable for the team and if he can help fetch you a much larger position of need, you make that move.

The Reds have Winker, Senzel and Castellanos in the OF.  Winker had a slow start to the season, but was one of the hottest hitters in the majors for a couple weeks.  Senzel was injured.  I do not expect the Reds are going to deal for a starting OFer to supplant one of these three unless they move Senzel back to the infield.

On top of Winker, Senzel, and Castellanos, they have Ervin, Aquino and Van Meter. 

Maybe Santander could crack that in a platoon role?  I don’t think they’d give up what Santander is worth to us. However, if you go with the thinking that no player is truly worth anything to us unless they will be here when we “contend”, then we should look to deal him. I just don’t know if Cinncy is the best fit.

Winker mostly DH'd.   

Senzel plays CF. He was drafted with the Reds 1st pick (#2 overall) in 2016.  He should be locked in as their CF at least for next year.

Their starting LF was 32-year old Shogo Akiyama who posted a .654 OPS.  Even DJ Stewart would be an upgrade there. Of course, they could be looking for more of a sure-thing upgrade, but that requires either money or surrendering prospects.  

Any single player we have, would not generate interest, but if we bundle some guys together, it might work.
