Why did Santander sit? Why deliberately weaken the lineup against the NY Yankees?

Hyde said he is being care to rest Santander because he was injured in ST.  Hyde said he was going to rest him the last game in Boston but Santander talked him out of it.

Nope. Elias is not signing high price talent to win.  Hyde says he is trying to win every game.

Do you think any manager is treating all 162 as must win games?  It's a long season, you have to plan for a long season.  That might mean game #4 is the time you put Armstrong in to knock some rust off.

To put it in cliche terms for you, it's a marathon not a sprint.

Yada, yada, yada.   He says he is trying to win every game. He's got 9 relievers on the team.

Well, that’s a reason but it’s a pretty stupid reason. You don’t rest your best player in the first game of a series against the American League favorites, Unless you are surrendering the game before you even start it. So that was a stupid reason.

You do realize that both Hyde and Elias will be untruthful with the media, and extension us, whenever it is convenient for them right?

Also NO ONE MANAGES each game like it is do or die.  You can't manage that way.  You couldn't manage that way last year in a short season, you certainly can't do it now.

Nobody but you said do or die.  He just said he tries to win every game.  Wells and Plutko were not available tonight.  The other 7 relievers could have pitched.  There were better choices.

Managers that do this inevitably burn out their team before Labor Day or much sooner by treating every game like it's game seven of the World Series. Especially with the way bullpens are relied on now when a game gets out of hand, you have to let your least reliable pitchers eat up some innings.

And get guys that haven't pitched in a while some work.

I would not have used Armstrong there.   Not coming off paternity leave having not thrown under supervision in days.  I would not have been bothered if Armstrong had come in at the start of an inning, or even with a runner on base.   But bases loaded, so no room for error?   No.

Doesn’t really matter because the offense did absolutely nothing tonight.

Tate or perhaps Fry was only other option there, not 7 guys. Aren’t using Scott/Valdez there in 5th. Aren’t using long men there. Fry had not pitched all year either.

This was Game 4 of 162, not Game 4 of a Division series.
