You can tell me the win stat doesn't matter, that's fine.  But don't tell that to Manny Barreda.

Hyde's respect for Barreda's path to the big leagues in the post-game presser was a good example of being a likable manager.

I’m trying to find out. So far, it’s 14 this season but I can’t find totals for previous seasons.

This is very easy to find on BB-ref.

2021 - 14

2020 - 5

2019 - 8

2018 - 15

Here’s the relevant page for 2018.   You can navigate from there to 2017, etc.  it’s an MLB-wide list but you can sort it by team.  https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2018-debuts.shtml

I’d be willing to bet 15 is the team record.  An average season for a team is 7-8.

Has anyone done the work to see if this is the most major league debuts for an Orioles team? Has to be.

I don't know, but I believe they said during the game on TV that they set a record with the debuts of 3 MLB pitchers over 30 this season.

Roch has been talking about it (approaching the record) for the past week or so.    We broke the record last night:

Quote

Manny Barreda, 32, entered in the eighth inning and became the 16th Oriole to make his major league debut this season, breaking the club record of 15 in 2018. He’s the 58th player used, tying the record set in 2019.

The Orioles' website indicates that, prior to Mike Baumann on Tuesday and Manny Barreda on Wednesday, the last Oriole reliever to make his MLB debut in relief and earn the win was Alberto Castillo on April 28, 2008.

Although Castillo is officially credited with a win on that date, he never pitched in the major leagues prior to July 8 of that year.

The April 28 game was played in Chicago in terrible weather.  Since it was the Orioles' only scheduled visit to Chicago that season, the umps tried mightily to get the game in, but finally ruled the field unplayable after the 11th inning ended with the score tied at 3.  The game was suspended at that point, and would not be resumed until August 25, when the White Sox came to Baltimore.

Castillo entered the game with two out in the bottom of the 13th (the White Sox were still the home team) and retired Jim Thome to end the inning.  When the Orioles scored in the top of the 14th, it made a winner out of Castillo.  The game goes into the books as being played on the date when it started, so Castillo gets credit for a win on April 28, even though he wasn't with the team on that date.

Another oddity about that game is that Lou Montanez, who entered the game on August 25 in the 12th inning, is credited with a single on April 28.  Montanez didn't come up to the Orioles until August.  He hit a home run the first time he ever came to bat in the major leagues, which was on August 6, but if you look at the official records, it's difficult to recognize that fact, because they indicate that he batted twice and had one hit on April 28, prior to the date when he hit his first home run.

Were you looking at pitchers only?   We've had 14 pitchers and 2 position players (McKenna, Nevin) make their MLB debut this year, for a total of 16.
