MILB.com's top 50 prospects - how many O's prospects will land there?

Palmer, McNally, Cuellar

Flanagan, McGregor, Boddicker

Tillman, Matusz, Arrieta

When you've got three real good pitchers, great things can happen. If you told me all three if these guys would pan out as above average major league starters, I'd take my chances with everything else.

And what's even better is that lingering behind them are a arms in numbers with varying amounts of risk (injury/Spoone & Patton; command/Hernandez, etc.) any one of whom could be a wildcard fourth or fifth arm.

While the odds are good that one of these guys won't become everything we dream, the odds are equally good that at least one of the second-tier arms in our MiL system will exceed our expectations.

You would have to think that if the O's can acquire Burnett, with Guthrie as another solid veteran presence in the rotation, and Tillman, Matusz and Arrieta somewhere in most peoples' top 50 prospects lists, the future looks pretty bright. And, as pointed out, there's lots of solid, allbeit next tier down, talent with Patton, Albers, Bergesen, Hernandez, Berken, Erbe and Britton not too far behind. And, I haven't even given up on Penn or Olson (assuming he isn't traded) entirely.

Maybe our days of depending on guys like Burres, Bass, Trachsel and Waters will be over (at least after this season).

Exactly. It's how you build an organization, or a portfolio. You've got your blue-chips, but that's not where your greatest profits necessarily come. We've got power arms (Spoone, Erbe), command and control guys (Patton) and GB specialists (Bergesen) all waiting in the wings.

Not to mention, high wattage arms like Liz.

This is where pitching should be coming from - and will - not the FA market.

Was watching the film of Tillman and seeing that tall right hander delivering off the mound while wearing #22 sent shivers up and down my spine. Where have I seen that before? :scratchchinhmm:

If he's 75% of our last #22, I couldn't be more pleased.

Enjoy the #22 jersey in that video clip. Tillman switched to #25 halfway through the season. The reasoning? The Baysox #22 jersey did not fit nearly as well as the #25. And that, folks, is your random Orioles Hangout factoid of the day. :thumbsup1:

Now we think pitching well in AA at age 20 is studly, but our last no. 22 was pitching a World Series shutout at that age! How times have changed.

I really do feel that these three could be our ticket back there if we get the breaks.

Many here wanted Justin Smoak over Matusz.

What's up with Smoak? Didnt't see him listed on this list.

Smoak won't be on this list, and most likely neither will be Chacin, Bowden, C. Santana, or Vitters.... And I know I am missing a few other names as well.

Which in part is pretty much causes for me to dismiss the list entirely.

OK for 1-10 you got 15 really good prospects. I know they all don't belong in the top 10 but who do you cut?:

Price,Weiters, Rasmus, Maybin, Feliz, Snider, Heyward, Bumgardener, Alvarez, Porcello, Vitters, Smoak, Chacin, Bowden, Carlos Santana...

50. Jeff Samardzija-?

This list is a mess. From what I can gather the list made up from several other peoples top 75-100 list from MILB.com, and the you get an aggregate. So if one person really over ranks somebody, or leaves somebody off totally it really skews the numbers.

Ohh well, at least it is something to talk about
