2021 Orioles #20 Prospect - Terrin Vavra - 2B/UTL

I like this guy some. Feels like he could come up and be an impact bench type of player. Maybe more valuable in the NL for that reason. I knew that his defense wasn't his strength, but wasn't aware of his L/R split issues and historical injury issues. Those knock him down a tier for me. Seems like he carries a lot of risk of reaching his potential.

I'm really curious to see what you say about a bunch of guys from the last draft (or 2) and a couple more international guys. I honestly can't believe how many guys I still really look forward to reading about at this point.

I really hope we get a chance to see Vavra in Baltimore the second half of 2022. Throw him against the wall with likes of Urias, Mateo and Jones. See who sticks. By 2023 (if not sooner for Westburg) we will see Westburg, Henderson and maybe Ortiz coming up. If at least one of the four could establish himself as a legitimate starter and one or two others as a utility guy, that would be awesome! Some of these lower ceiling, higher floor guys will have a chance to show something before the flashier, better prospects emerge and I'm really interested in seeing who sinks and who swims as they may have a shorter window to prove themselves than we've seen guys get over the last few years.

Ben Zobrist was that marvelous utility guy who could play well everywhere, and hit well, to boot.

But because there aren’t guys like him falling out of trees,I much prefer a utility guy who can actually Defend very well. Urias seems to be our second baseman next season. Westburg in Baltimore is a reasonable expectation? Gutierrez staying at third? Can Gutierrez play SS?

I like the fact that there's a good separation between his batting average and on base percentage.  Like Tony says in the writeup, good feel for working counts and drawing walks.  IMO, it means he's got a plan at the plate.

But if he can't hit lefties, that's not good.

Ultimately, what makes me happy here is that a guy like Vavra is ranked 20th when in other years a guy with this profile would be ranked around 10th, I feel.  That's got nothing to do with Vavra himself but it's more of a state of the farm system on the whole.
