The Mark Teixeira Watch part III

I'm not an insider and never claimed to be, but I wanted to pass along some fun info.

My girlfriend works for the State Police, and she just told me a neat story. She came in the room and asked me, that guy the Orioles are trying to sign, I said Mark Teixeira, and she said yeah. I said what about him? She told me one of the Troopers from her barick met him yesterday. I said Where? She said at the Ravens game. I asked her how? She said that he's friends with some of the Baltimore City cops that were escorting him. So, that does in fact confirm he WAS there.

Now to the juicy part. He asked Tex, are you gonna be an Oriole next year. He said Tex just laughed, and said I can't talk about it right now, but you'll know soon enough.

That's not to say he's gonna be an Oriole, but she said the Trooper that told her said his impression was that Tex will be an Oriole.

You don't have to believe it, but these are coming from Police Officers, and my girlfriend wouldn't do that to, atleast I hope not.

I hope its soon.

That's a good story. Thanks for the info.

That seems like exactly what a free agent would say evading the question.

I'm not going to blow it out of proportion and I hope no one else does, but wow...that would be some of the greatest of all greatest impression one could get from an individual.

This might hold some truth for the mid-week announcement.

All signs are pointing to Tex becoming an Oriole. The question is when?

From that encounter, it sounds like Belkast's prediction of this week is pretty accurate...

Tick Tock, Tick Tock, Tex ain't afraid of an old dead crock...

Let's hope this is the Final Countdown!

True. If PA is dealing exclusively with Tex ,then I could see them multitasking. But if I were them I would want them to announce the signing as soon as possible so it could influence more free agents to sign here.

I understand the thinking and hoping this is the case, but how many free agents followed A-Rod to Texas? Chan Ho Park? Not that it won't happen, but it can be argued the only reason Teixeira is even considering the O's is the hometown angle (assuming other things - $$$ - are equal). Does that really mean other players are going to come to Baltimore if they are looking to win now?

I'm not trying to offend, I just want to know what historical basis people are using when they say other free agents will come here? Of course if the FO throws enough money at them, they might. But doesn't this go against the rebuild a lot of fans want to see?

That's a great story, thanks for posting!

My only question is, if he had a security escort like that- HOW WAS HE SO DAMN TOUGH TO SPOT??? :)

Understood. It was more along the lines as it might make them consider us and not just pass us over.

That makes sense. If they read message boards, the free agents will see this is a pretty good group who are starving for a winner. There is a lot of passion, O's fans deserve good news soon and a winner on the field in 2009.
