The Teixeira Watch: Part V - AM says the O's "have flexibility" on Tex

Umm, correct me if I'm wrong but Tex hasn't signed with Boston yet. Reading the last several pages you would think that he has. Why don't we just wait and see what happens before all the doom and gloom posts.

Some of you live and die by comments in the media. Just a couple days ago it was looking good for the O's landing Tex and it was pandemonium in here. Now a report comes out saying he may land in Boston and it's still pandemonium but in the opposite way this time.

+1, and rep to you.

There is no signed contract so lets all hold on a minute.

When are we going to find out if this is really over? Is there any realistic chance that we are going to get a final chance to up our offer? That's the only hometown benefit I've ever expected us to get.

All of this means little more than the process is ongoing. At some point Boras is going to collect his best final offer from each team. It still seems entirely likely that the Orioles are waiting for the last 15 seconds until the eBay auction concludes before they make their move. They will be given that last chance to bid, and I think they will. Just because Epstein and Henry hope to have an agreement tonight or tomorrow doesn't mean anything at all, because they can't do it without Teixeira. They can hope all they want. Teixeira is a stand up guy who I believe sincerely has an interest in playing for the Orioles. He will give them that last chance. So in a way, if they really are meeting with Boras tonight, I say GOOD! Let's get on with this thing. One way or another, we had to reach this stage. I still feel very good about our chances. If we don't get him, it's because the Red Sox just offered a sick amount of money that was so superior to our best possible offer.

I am really sorry, but... for this most recent report... Why in the world would Scott Boras be meeting the heads of the Red Sox in Texas in order to get the deal done for Teixeira? That really just doesn't make any sense to me and sounds like wishful thinking on the Boston reporter's part.

I hope that I am right in thinking this way, too...

I don't get the Texas angle either.

I have checked. Neither Bigbird or Belkast has posted anything since about 8am this morning. Whats up with that. Tony put the bomb on them to chill until we have better info?

I think it is more likely that they each has a life outside of the Hangout, and don't feel compelled to post something every time the sentiment in here dips into the pit of despair.

    • Happen to catch the O’s game? Was it boring?
    • Dude's a Yankee killer.  I like him as an innings eater sp but I don't think he'll ever be a great pitcher. I recall looking at his stats thru one, two, three times they the lineup and seeing him do very well the first two times. I feel like he could be a stud long reliever.
    • There really haven’t been too many close pennant races involving the Yankees and the Orioles.   These are the closest finishes: 2012: Yankees 95, Orioles 93 (O’s eliminated in game 162; last held the lead in game 159) 1997: Orioles 98, Yankees 96 (Yankees eliminated in game 161; O’s led wire to wire) 1974: Orioles 91, Yankees 89 (Yankees eliminated in game 161; last held the lead in game 154) 1964: Yankees 99, Orioles 97 (O’s eliminated in game 160; last held the lead in game 151) 1980: Yankees 103, Orioles 100 (O’s eliminated in game 160; last held the lead in game 9) 1977: Yankees 100, Orioles 97 (O’s eliminated in game 159; last held the lead in game 105)  1996: Yankees 92, Orioles 88 (O’s eliminated in game 159; last held the lead in game 49). This year’s race is the next-closest, and there’s really nothing else that was even remotely close.
    • They said 1st triple play to end a game since 2009.  So yeah, it's probably never happened to end a game to clinch a playoff spot.
    • And yes, Ohtani-Betts-Freeman were coming next so they were in big trouble before the triple play.
    • I hope youre wrong too, but I think you are right.
    • 4-2 Padres bottom of the 9th, Dodgers have bases runners at 1st and 2nd none out. Robert Suarez is on the verge of blowing yet another save having already given up 3 straight hits. The ball is hit sharply to Manny who gets the ball and runs back to 3rd, then swings the ball around the horn for a Triple play.  And that play clinches a playoff berth for the Padres.  Wonder if that has ever happened, a triple play that clinches a playoff berth, probably not.  Hell of an ending!
