Marlins Open to Trading from Pitching Surplus

So is anybody in our minor leagues untouchable at this point? I mean in practical terms. Would Elias consider something like Alcantara for Henderson + Westburg ? Is that enough from our end to get it done? Or not enough? I would hope that if we're dealing position prospects for pitching prospects Miami would have to offer higher end talent simply because TINSTAAPP.

EDIT: I see from the article that the Marlins consider Alcantara and Eury Pérez off limits. I find that odd since Alcantara is set to make $70 million over the next five years, and Miami has historically been penny pinchers.

They just signed him.

Mullins to Miami makes a lot of sense.

They could also use Hays or Santander and if the Os look to move Mateo, Miami is a fit there as well.

Moving Hays/Santander makes a lot more sense than Mullins. We don’t have a logical backup in CF and Mullins has the highest ceiling.

Well, that does depend on Cowser.  Some feel he is a CFer and if the Os do feel that way, he could slide in quickly.

You can also acquire a CFer by other means, like signing Kiermeier for example.

Mullins is a good player but I do question where he is in 2-3 years and if you can use him to get good young pitching and you can keep your better prospects, I’m all for that.

I think we will see Elias slowly move Hays, Santander, and Mountcastle, in favor of the younger guys. However, I think we could make a run at pitching, but we’d likely deal our “vet” bats for prospect returns.

We won’t be bringing back Lyles. I could see Santander and Tate traded this offseason. Both would be selling high, and both are in arbitration.  So maybe we make a run at a FA SP, and keep all of our prospects.

Do you think the White Sox at least listen if we do Hays + Westburg +Jackson for Dylan Cease?  Is that enough?  Is it too much?

Hard for me to believe that Cowser has Mullins speed and range in CF.  Seem more like Hays in  a corner OF spot.

The move of Cowser and Ortiz to AAA is significant.

I am not sure the need for starters is as dire as it once was.   Tyler Wells, Kremer, Bradish and Voth have been pretty convincing this year.   Grayson has a spot in next years rotation.    I would not discount the possibility of Lyles returning as a innings eater.  Hall is an unknown. And then there in Means by mid season.   Holt is showing he has the ability to develop pitchers.

Jackson?  As in Holliday?

Maybe like a Michael or Janet Jackson CD. Holliday is untouchable.

I think next year will depend if Elias thinks we have a realistic shot to win the division. Do the Yankees lose Judge?  Hopefully.

My prediction is that we go the FA route for a SP on a 3 year deal. I don’t think we’re ready to pull the trigger on a Cole or Verlander type deal yet. Our secondary prospects need a little bit more hype. Trade deadline time next year will probably be really interesting.

    • We have an off day to give Mounty an extra days rest. We have an off day next Monday as well with the ASB looming. Mounty is close to making the ASG so I doubt he wants to hit the IL.  Meaning a RP would have to go for Mayo. I think we’re trying to keep Urias this season and move on from him in the offseason. Mayo is on target to be added as our extra player in September unless we have an injury.  It sure would be nice to bring Mayo up and let him get a ton of ABs to be ready for the playoffs.  At the end of the day, what’s worth more?  Urias as an insurance policy that shouldn’t get ABs in the playoffs, or developing Mayo that should get playoff ABs?
    • When Kremer comes back and if we get a #3 starter, would that help bolster the pen? You can move Suarez and Irvin/Povich into the pen.
    • Those three starts were going against @NYY, @Hou, and Texas. He’s slated to go @Oak with an extra day of rest.  We have to differentiate between regular season SP and playoff SP. Just like how we have to do with regular season RP and playoff RP.  Irvin, Povich, Kremer, and Suarez, are fine options to get you through 162.  Burnes, and Grayson, are our playoff options right now. We need a game 2/3 SP. The playoff RP core looks to be Kimbrel, Cano, Webb, Coloumbe(if healthy), and Perez. It would be nice to add two arms to the playoff RPs.
    • I had thought Hell’s Bells was about trying to avoid your wife and family to watch O’s games.
    • Westburg’s lack of lateral quickness has been pointed out there.  Then again, everyone will look less quick when compared to Mateo. I think Mayo’s more of a 3B/1B with us. Position versatility. That’s not a knock on him at 3B, but that we like players in different positions to match up. Mayo is no different.
    • Irvin’s next start is scheduled for @ Oakland. As of right now, we’d be scheduled to have the back half of the rotation for the Yankees series right before the break. I could see us tinkering with the rotation so that we have Burnes and Grayson at least going vs the Yankees.  I could see us going with a 6 man rotation after the ASG. Especially if we were to make a trade for Scherzer.
    • Thank you for your advocacy for Jackson on CF position.  My reasons almost same as yours .  Having said that , Jackson should also work on 2B .  There’s too many players and limited positions , ABs have to be rationed as well.  The upcoming deadline will likely reveal who’s staying and who’s leaving.  In the meantime , they should let Jackson heal any injuries and refine his positional skills
