It would be very stupid of Elias to say the things he’s said if he didn’t have some money to spend.  The realistic question is how much.

I went with $80-99.9 million

Elias' alma mater Houston's payroll roughly tripled 2014-2017 and I'm using that as a guide to speculate.  Because it's primarily starting pitching that the O's need in 2023 I'm guessing that the increase is front-loaded, but I wouldn't be surprised to see $120 million plus after the 2024 trade deadline.

I'm going to guess just a hair over $100 mill.  I see Elias getting a FA SP and getting a SP by trade.  also adding a major bat, $10-15 mill, and a minor bat, $5 mill or so.  Not sure the math is right, but about $40 mill in free agents + whatever the SP traded for makes.

Eovaldi might be the last $10mm/year guy, so even an Elias late push like Wacha-Belt might not necessarily crack $80mm.
