Well of course, they're telling the Yankees, Dodgers, Giants etc. this so they can up their offers.

Well seeing this rumor/report, combined with the fact we went out and got Fujinami and his trainer/translator, makes me want to hold on to the slightest glimmer of hope.

When he is not pitching he has to DH to play? So he would be our everyday DH except for the days he pitches? If so, doesn't that create a bit of a logjam with all the guys we've been using the DH to give playing time?

You make the room for superior generational players. You're playing for a championship. It's not rec league.

He doesn't *have* to DH.  Makes sense during the regular season, but no reason why he can't play some outfield in the playoffs or crucial games down the stretch.

I understand, wouldn't that make someone(s) available to trade if we don't have the playing time for all of them moving forward? Assuming we get Otani of course.

This is correct too. He knows how to play right field and play it well. Although with him becoming the Ace of your pitching rotation, it's probably not something the team would really want to do due to added injury and fatigue concerns.

Ohtani leads MLB in OPS+ someone can sit on the days he is the DH. I don’t see a remote chance of Elias trading for Ohtani given the likely asking price.

But it's an option.... to keep hi bat in the lineup and rotate him and others through the DH... ok.. question answered. Thanks.

Of course; It's a trade. But it's difficult to know which players those could be without being privy to the conversations with Perry Minasian, or either teams' front offices' personnel.

No. You don’t want any other player on our roster batting over Ohtani. He’s that good and that much better right now.

I didn't articulate my question well. I was only trying to determine if Otani played any defensive positions so it wouldn't create a DH logjam. He does, he plays RF, Question answered

I also think if there are players on our current roster involved in the trade the log jam could be much less. Santander, Mountcastle, Westburg or Cowser.
