What an amazing stretch

In the 47 games starting June 20, the Orioles have played 44 teams that currently have a winning record.   The Mets last weekend is the only team we have faced since June 18 that is under .500 right now.

In those 47 games, the Orioles went 29-18 (.617), basically a 100 win pace despite playing almost nothing but winning teams for 8 solid weeks.

That really is an incredible accomplishment that needs to be recognized.   This team has excelled and put up an incredible record while playing contenders almost non-stop,  week in and week out for nearly 2 months.

In the Orioles next 21 games, we play 3 games against a team with a winning record (Toronto) and 18 against teams with losing records.   Time to put the pedal to the medal.   3 games up on Tampa now (4 in the loss column and really almost like 5 if you assume we can win at least ONE game out of 4 from them and clinch the head to head tiebreak).   They are in a fairly soft part of their schedule too, but now it appears they might be dealing with a major off field distraction.   If we can play well in the next 21 games we can really solidify our hold on the division.

Enjoy this ride!

Thanks for the summary. Sorry to not know, but what's the major off-field distraction for Tampa (aside from injury/surgery-related news)?

This is a good thread, which I was thinking about starting myself. Indeed, the schedule since late June has been brutal for the Orioles, and the fact that they more than held their own is quite impressive.

But, on the other hand, according to this site the Orioles have the 25th SOS in the remaining games, while Tampa Bay has the 7th.

In other words, the Orioles should be able to increase their lead over TB. If they can at least split the 4-game series in September, it's going to be hard for TB to catch them.

Of course, talk is cheap, let's play, as a famous #19 said. They have a long road ahead still.

It also feels like we have played alot of teams when they were hot: Mariners, Astros, Dodgers, Brewers, Reds all come to mind.

The Astros and Dodgers are different. Most likely a run to the WS will require beating one of those 2... possibly both. Either way, the O's prove over and over that they are legit.
