Which would have been different from anything he have done before this off season.

Thats fine.  If your thread title had said, “Elias has done something he’s never done before,” I would have agreed.  Nobody disputes it.  They simply dispute that the reason he did it was a change in his mind set, rather than a change in the situation he’s in.

And it’s the shocking/surprising tone that “omg, they are winners now and they actually want to capitalize on it”

This thread is more about WC’s surprise of this than anything. He has been saying all offseason that Elias won’t do this type of move.

So maybe the change in situation led him to change his mind set and then his actions.

That is true but I didn't know the team would be sold.  If he followed lost year he would have pursued Cease and Burnes.  Angelos would not have agreed to sign either.

I’ve seen Rosenthal and many others interviewed.  Elias thought he had a deal for Burnes in place in December then the Brewers decided not to trade him and changed their minds again.   Even Elias says he worked on this (I assume he means he kept JA informed), with Angelos throughout.  Everyone asked this question says the ownership change had nothing to do with this trade.

It’s obvious this is true, but sometimes people just can’t accept a straightforward answer that contradicts their earlier assumptions or speculation.

I'm betting that Elias knew there was a possible ownership change in December.

Ok?    How about last July when they were in talks to get Cease?

You are just talking about when the mental shift happened.   Elias had protected and kept his prospects up until the time he traded them.    It could have been July or December or January.   The point is he collected prospects for a long time and then finally he shifted to trading prospects for a veteran.

Elias says it was not a shift because he was building toward the World Series since he got to Baltimore.   And I agree with that sweeping statement.   But the mentality was to keep the  high value prospect/ young players.    Then with the recent trade he shifted/changed.

You just had a mentality shift.  You were arguing that the reason you were wrong about Elias making this type of move was the ownership change you knew nothing about but maybe Elias did.  Then I brought up them trying to get Cease at the deadline which certainly would have required some good prospects but Hahn asked for Holliday.

Yeah, so.   I have no idea what your point is.

And Elias tried to get Bassitt last year but that did not happen.  A lot of things get talked about but never get the approval to happen.
