His 2018 season played 105 gms , 5 hrs , OPS 741 and 2019 played 114 gms , 7 hrs with OPS .688 . His catcher position took a toll on his offensive stats

Yea, he killed the Giants with his 108 OPS+ in 2018...

He put up a 2.8 rWAR/2.6 fWAR season in 2018.

The man had one year in which he could be considered below average.

After Covid he even came back for a top 25 MVP finish year, won the SS and then bowed out gracefully.

Any team would love to have that be the result of an extension.

For that matter Mauer had to move off of Catcher but he never had a season in which he hurt the Twins.

Too far in the future to worry about.  What if we’re sitting on two consecutive World Series trophies and looking like a contender again?   You aren’t trading him then no matter what, I’d guess.

If we are sitting on two World Series trophies and continue as contenders, that would be great 👍🏻.  My point about Adley is when his contact is up . He would be what ….30 ? ….31 ?   Do we give him a Machado deal ?  A Harper deal ?    This is my question. Should O’s give him that kind of deal for his extension ?   Or we cash him out by put QO on him & watch him walk  ?   Just an hypothetical question

If he makes it to the end of his contract (or realistically anywhere close) the possibility of resigning him go down dramatically. The player literally has no incentive to do so. Like Burnes, their best place is to hit the market and let suitors compete and come to you.

No, you can’t give him that.  Aggressively, you could give him Posey +20%.

Any team would love to have that be result of an extension . Oh definitely 💯.  My question is was Posey playing as a catcher during that extension ?

if Mauer didn’t hurt the Twins , why did he stopped catching ?
Can Adley play catcher when his contract expires ?  There’s a reason why catcher position tends to shorten careers

Yes you are correct that each player’s best option is to hit the market & let suitors bid for him .
My question is…….do we want keep Adley by extending him and keep him as catcher ?

Posey caught 106 games his last season, more than Adley is on pace to catch this year.

Mauer stopped catching because of brain trauma.

Even when he moved off of catcher he wasn't "dead weight".   Dead weight is Jose Abreu.

You pointed out those two contracts as cautionary tales and I don't think they were particularly bad contracts.  The McCann deal was worse than either.

I saw that Posey had 106 games in his final season but website didn’t said he was still playing catcher.  Now I’m impressed by that detail.  I stand corrected, deadweight does not apply to Posey

The McCann is bad , I agree. However the Mets made that mistake . They paying most of his salary to play for O’s . lol

Abreu certainly does match the term deadweight, however his deadweight is not as bad as Chris Davis deadweight

I didn't want to go with the Davis contract, seemed too obvious.

I am stuck somewhere between wanting to give Adley an extension that makes him an Oriole for life and looking at him like he's our version of Ivan Rodriguez, or being cautious from logically knowing that he's a catcher and we saw how fast Matt Weiters declined. Plus we have him under team control until he's 30-31.

I just know how much he means to our team right now. He's the heart and soul of the club house. But I also know it's not that wise to get locked into a big guaranteed contract if the position has a wide array of sample sizes where players at that position tapered off pretty quickly in their early 30s and we have another phenomenal catching prospect in the minors at age 19.

So this becomes a question on whether I am going to think with my heart or my head. Rutschmen is one of my favorite players and he's a good face of the franchise. He also means alot to our pitching staff.

Adley is one of my favorite Orioles too . My only concern with him is how long can he stay at catcher ?

Do you know how he's hitting at DH this year?

How does 362/400/660 sound?  Does that play at DH if he can't catch?

So that’s the question, how long do you go with him?

6 years is ideal but I doubt he signs that. Over 8 years is a bad idea.

So, 6-8 years.

2025: 7M

2026: 15M

2027: 20M

2028: 28M

2029: 28M

2030: 30M

2031: 35M

7/163…Does he sign that?

Too close to someone else's contract.

That’s my case for putting Adley at DH full time . I know he can hit . You provided the stat . I don’t want Adley at catcher . That’s what we have McCann for
