Now we’re facing Jeffrey Springs, who had TJ surgery on 4/24/23. He began his minor league rehab 5/20/24, but Tampa optioned him to the minors when his rehab was up and only recalled him on 7/30/24/. So in his case, 15 months plus a week from surgery to pitching in a big league game.
The 2023 Rays were precursors to the 2024 Orioles, with Springs, Rasmussen and Baz all going down with serious elbow injuries requiring major surgery.
@Warehouse, I stand corrected on the nature of Rasmussen’s surgery.
I remember watching an Orioles game on TV, late '70s or early '80s, in Texas and Ken Kaiser blew a call against us in the first inning. Eddie Murray didn't argue the call, he just crossed his arms and glared at him. The TV camera was on Murray and Kaiser the whole time. Kaiser ejected Murray from the game for looking at him. Ken Kaiser was the kind of umpire that would revel in the fact that he could do anything, make any call no matter how bad, and there was nothing that anybody could do about it. When the 68 MLB umpires made the mistake of resigning en masse in 1999 it came as no surprise that Kaiser was one of only 6 that was never rehired.
