I hadn't digested before today that Andrew Walters, college relief prospect Elias wasn't able to sign from the '22 draft, became a '23 Cleveland selection and is in their postseason bullpen in '24.

It looks like the regular season results were pretty extreme effectively wild - 6/5 K/BB in 8.2 innings, but just 1 hit.

Walters taking the extra year at Miami got himself up to nearly a $1M bonus.

And he just gave up the only run so far in game 5. Guardians played the bullpen game a little too cutely today, taking Boyd out after a pretty good just two innings has led to some lesser used arms coming out of the pen.

Gaddis has been pushed past his Grady Little-Pedro Martinez breaking point, and Vogt is forced to dig deeper into the depth chart.

Eight long outs to go, and Tigers have it back to 5-3.

Certainly seeing the medium term drawbacks of this ‘chaos’ pitching strategy. At some point these guys run out of steam.

The two upstarts Detroit and KC out. No 2023 Texas Rangers this year. Last year was really an anomaly and the Orioles were on the receiving end.

On the other hand, I think Detroit would be tougher on the NYY. Cleveland just can't hit. They lucked into a GS today against Skubal or they would have lost.

The Mets were the #3 wild card who didn't clinch a playoff spot until Game 161.   They won 89 games, one fewer than the "upstart" Rangers last year.   So why don't they count as a possible upstart?   Payroll?   Last year's Rangers had a pretty big payroll.   And the Mets were 75-87 in 2023.
