how about Frank Zappa ~ Dancin' Fool? :D :wedge:
If we're going to pretend we're a redneck town (yeeeeehaw!), at least play a baseball song

or on a different note, go with Maryland's own, Joan Jett

David Byrne grew up around Baltimore

I was trying to find an approprite song from Baltimore born Frank Zappa, but I didn't think "Dinah Moe Humm" would pass the censors.

If we're going with Frank Zappa, I nominate "Peaches En Regalia" or "Pygmy Twilight."

And just for the record, I like TGIACB, but I can see why some don't.

Problem is, most people in baltimore arent "country boys" I think it makes us look like po-dunk hicks to the rest of the country when they visit our park or watch one of our games on TV. Ill take just about anything over it.

Do you know what they play during the 7th inning stretch at Yankee Stadium? Cotton-Eyed Joe. What a bunch of hicks!

Caroline Kennedy inspired Neil Diamond to write "Sweet Caroline". Caroline is the daughter of John F Kennedy (Boston native).

Typical snotty Boston attitude, to sing that song at the 7th inning stretch.

I say keep Take me out to the Ball Game...maybe even copy the Cubs idea of having a "guest song leader" each game...then KILL THE "THANK GOD I'M A COUNTRY BOY" song....I have always hated that song at the 7th inning...I agree, it has nothing to do with baseball...makes the fans act like a bunch of hicks.

This is something I wish I could un-know.

A majority of the 7th inning stretch songs across MLB have nothing to do with baseball.

For those that may remember, if I recall correctly, the O's did in fact stop playing John Denver's song during the inaugural season at Camden Yards.

None other than Peter Angelos mandated the ceasement of the song - he hated it. Instead, take me out to the ballgame was played during the 7th inning stretch according to his orders. But O's fans united, and whether it was a letter writing campaign or numerous calls to the mgmt...and when Thank God I'm a country boy was reinstated the crowd went bezerk and has been played ever since.

Can anyone confirm/deny this story? I'm fairly certain all of these details above are accurate.

I attended Game 1 of the 1983 World Series. John Denver was there to sing the National Anthem. Then, at the 7th Inning Stretch they gave him a mic and from his seat in the stands he led Memorial Stadium in a live version of TGIACB. Up to that point, I had always thought "Rock This Town" by the Stray Cats would have been a better 7th Inning Stretch song. But after that moment, I changed my mind. So many things about the Orioles I knew and loved from my younger days are gone.....I'm content to have this one small part live on, even if it is far from being one of my favorite songs.

That said, if it truly is time for change, here are a few of my choices.

"Heartbreaker" by Led Zeppelin

"Burning Down the House" by Talking Heads

If you don't want to have the same song every day, how about a song based on what day of the week it is?

"I Don't Like Mondays" by Boomtown Rats

"Tuesday's Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd

"Wednesday Week" by Elvis Costello

"Understanding in a Car Crash" by Thursday - I struggled with a good Thursday song title

"Black Friday Rule" by Flogging Molly - cause the O's wear black on Fridays. :D

"Saturday Night Is Alright (For Fighting)" by Elton John

"Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2 - because......well......you know how Sundays at OPACY usually go
