Who do we draft in 2010

Recommended Posts

With all of the speculation of what we will do this off-season to improve our team.....

Who do we draft this year. Seeming that we have a high pick again, what will ANDY do in this area?? A lot of our recent picks are in the bigs right now, so where do we go this go around???

There's a ton of speculation every year, but it's a friggin crapshoot trying to guess. I guarantee you not one person anywhere had Hobgood pencilled in for fifth overall pick for the Orioles in 2009.

It seems to me that most people would prefer if Harper came here, but since he's likely to go to the Nats (unless signability is an issue, then he'd go to the Bucs), Orioles faithful like prep pitcher Taillon in the three-spot.

Is there an "automatic" player with the potential to make an impact within his first 2 seasons??? ALA Weiters or Matusz

There are none that are sure things, in that regard. Draftees like Wieters and Matusz, Smoak, Price, etc... they were expected to rise rapidly, but this group doesn't necessarily have one of those at this time. It's quite possible by the end of the coming spring, collegians like Anthony Renaudo, Bryce Brentz, Christian Colon, and Deck McGuire could profile that way. Time will tell.

I have a feeling Ranaudo is gonna be that guy, but I also think we dont have a big chance of drafting him. Hes a Boras guy and there will be other better or equal talent available to us at our slot....But hes the closest thing to a Matusz type. I just dont think hes as safe as Matusz or has as high of a ceiling that Matusz had, Matusz had better stuff.....

I wasn't that impressed with him in the tourney last year. Given I was watching in a casino in Vegas, so I may have been distracted a bit, but I do remember wondering where all this hype was based.

Really? Ive read a lot of places rumors of him throwing mid 90's with a ML curve, but whenver I see him I see low low 90's and a good curve. I think hes among the safest in the top half of the draft. Not safe like Mike Leake though, but with a higher ceiling also. I dont look at Ranaudo as the #3 overall talent in the upcomign draft, but I definitely think hes in the top 5 or so....

I think Raynaudo is closest to the Majors. I don't know if that factors in the decision making, but if that is a consideration, he's closest.

As it stands now, I'd go with Harper, Taillon, Raynaudo, Cole in that order. We'll see how thing change this year.
