I've been a McKenna defender, but it's hard to defend him even with the two home runs he has hit in limited playing time. McKenna is supposed to be on this team for his defense and running, but has been poor at both so far.
I agree that maybe that line drive wasn't catchable, but he took a bad route to it and in general takes bad route to balls hit his way. It will be interesting to see who stays between Kjerstad and McKenna when Hays returns.
McKenna would make more sense as a utility outfielder and defensive replacement, but not when he's playing like this.
Bradish looked real solid in person. He did get himself into some jams but got out of em with some huge strikeouts and timely outs. 9ks in 5 innings as he was throwing 97mph sinker, 98mph heater and dropping that curve on the DC squadron.
1st inning runners 2nd and 3rd one out back to back called third strikes.
2nd inning 2nd and 3rd two outs gets Abrams looking.
Struck out the side in the 5th to end his night.
This is where I am. I can’t imagine there’s not an injury or something at play here. Obviously his stuff is not as electric as it used to be. But he was able to put together some good appearances in the early season. His issues right now don’t look like “stuff” is as much of an issue as it is command. And we’re talking awful command. He’s struggling to get the ball close to the zone.
If the problem is the stuff, he needs to be able to make adjustments. He can't blow guys away anymore, he needs to figure out how to get them out some other way.
