Why would we want Kubel? .691 lifetime OPS va. LHP. We already have McLouth, Davis, and Betemit. Kubel would be redundant.

His splits are really bad. But in his defense his splits have been much more bearable the last two years. His HR% has been consistently better than league average and he has been consistently better than league average OPS.

He is not the MOO bat that people might want, but he could be a useful piece if the price is right.

What would it take to get him? He has one year 7.5 million with a club option for 7.5 million and a 1 million buy out. Maybe if we sent Betemit over with a middle tier prospect? That way it cancels out the redundancy of Betemit and Kubel.

If you believe the two players are redundant than you are agreeing to give ARI 8.5 MM in exchange for 1.75 MM. What?

This. Why pay Kubel as a full-timer and platoon him, when Betemit is a bargain as the RHP side of a platoon and hits RHP as well or better than Kubel? Kubel doesn't make any sense for us.

Redundant in the sense that they're both much more useful against RHP and best used as a DH. The difference is Betemit is absolutely helpless against LHP and Kubel at least holds his own. Kubel had a .736 OPS vs LHP last year vs Betemits .405 OPS vs LHP last year.

Career triple slash:

Betemit - .268/.334/.444

Kubel - .268/.333/.467

Career vs. LHP:

Betemit - .228/.285/.352

Kubel - .238/.309/.383

Career vs. RHP:

Betemit- .282/.349/.475

Kubel- .279/.343/.498

Salary:

Betemit- 1/1.75

Kubel- 1/8.5 or 2/15

While I agree with your post, that picture on the start of the video is quite disturbing. I would encourage you to think ahead before posting such things.

The $6 million dollar diiference isn't worth it- that's most of Saunders' salary right there.

.691 lifetime. It is not overly difficult to keep the RHP side of a platoon from seeing many LHP. The reverse is more of a problem. Keeping Betemit, saving the extra $7million plus the player(s)/prospects(s) Kubel would cost you, and avoiding batting Betemit vs. LHP seems infinitely wiser to me than going after Kubel. Sorry, but I really can't even see any consideration of Kubel here.
