Jake Arrieta Today, 2013

Yeah, he was good. It will be telling to see what happens at the first sign of trouble. He got through a couple of rough spots today. I hope he does well.

Now 1-0 with 0.69 ERA in two starts with Cubs. I think he may end up being like Tillman who finally tweaked something the right way and it fell into place. We will likely regret this one sometime.

Not likely. If he becomes great, I doubt he could have done it with the Orioles. Something just didn't mesh and he wasn't ever going anywhere with us.

Arrieta was horrible again yesterday against the Dodgers. Made a point to watch it. Don't remember the line but it should have been worse. Even Vin Scully was dogging him.

Was he acting like a nervous wreck when he first had baserunners and had to pitch from the stretch? Was he pulling and tugging his hat and shirt and repeatedly wild and walking hitters before serving up some fat pitches to be hammered? If so, then you were watching a rerun from his Orioles days.

They simplified his delivery. He's actually been pitching from the stretch the entire time been with the Cubs. They basically did to him what we did with Tillman. Seemed to be working well the first two games. Same old story: command was horrible, always working behind, forced to throw a strike after getting behind and laying it in to get hit etc. Just like old times.

.

Although his walks were still high, and his strikes-to-balls ratio was bad, Jake managed to have a good overall line in this one.

1 run over 6.67 innings.

Um, he just pitched a couple days ago. Beat the Phillies on 9/1. Three hits over 6.2 innings.

Ah, ok. You're up to date.
